Daniel De Bourg eXits the X Factor
31-year-old ballet tutor Daniel De Bourg leaves the X Factor tonight in 11th place.
On X Factor's movie themed night he sang the Foundations 1968 classic "Build Me Up Buttercup" which was featured in the 1998 film "There's Something About Mary".
Louis Walsh's song choice for Daniel was questioned by fellow mentors and Daniel himself said "I would be lying if I said I wasn't really concerned about it."
Alongside Daniel, Alisha Bennett found herself in the bottom 2 for the second consecutive week and performed first in tonight's X Factor sing-off showdown. Just like last week, Alisha loosened up and raised her game for the reprise performance.
Daniel's reprise was similar to his main show performance and again his dancing took the oomph out of his vocal. His mentor Louis was the only judge to vote for Alisha to go. Simon had the decisive vote. After saying he had to choose the act that could improve the most he then kept us on tenterhooks with a long pregnant pause before sending Daniel home.
We're sorry to see Daniel go. In earlier stages we heard the true quality of his vocal, but unfortunately his performances this week (too much dancing) and last week (too choked up) didn't showcase that quality.
The plus side is that Alisha stays. She's delivered 2 tentative main show performances but also 2 much better showdown reprise performances. Clearly, despite appearing confident in her interactions with the panel, she hasn't mastered her 'big show' nerves. Hopefully on next week's main show she'll sing like there's no tomorrow. The talent is there, she just needs to be brave enough to let it out.
Oh and did we mention Celine Dion sang on tonight's Results Show? She was brilliant! Not just her vocal, but the nurturing way she had with the contestants. They all seemed touched after meeting her, just as we were after hearing her sing tonight. A few of the panel seem a little touched too, but we won't go into that!
