Singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" means a lot to Ray, "Tonight I wanna pay back Liverpool an' everybody else who's given me the support and er, really do the song proud."
Ray is singing a song that means a lot to his fellow Liverpudlians, and especially to his family. "You'll Never Walk Alone" has been sung at funerals of some of his close relatives and Ray wants to pay tribute to them and to Liverpool as a whole.
From the very start we can see the emotion in Ray's glistening eyes. This isn't his best vocal performance, there are a few flat notes here and there, but somehow because of Ray's raw emotion the performance still works.Ray Quinn is clearly feeling a lot of emotion as he sings "You'll Never Walk Alone", a song very dear to his heart.
Sharon Osbourne has an "Oh bless!" moment as her tears roll out in sympathy with Ray Quinn's on X Factor semifinal night. At the end of the song his emotions overflow into tears. He does his best to hold things together, turning his back to the audience momentarily to dry his eyes. It's heady stuff; so much so that Sharon can't even get her words out. Simon can though, and he tells Ray that he definitely hasn't let him down.
Ray hasn't let Simon, Liverpool or his family down. No matter what happens on tonight's results show they will still be proud of him and so long as he keeps hope in his heart Ray Quinn will never walk alone!

Panel-Bites:

Intro clip...

Ray: This song means a lot the me, you know. It's in me heart, I've grown up with it, it's where I'm from.

Simon Cowell:  We've always wanted someone to represent Liverpool, home of the Beatles.

Ray Snr: (Ray's dad, sitting with Ray's mum Val.) In Liverpool the support we're gettin' for Ray is absolutely astronomical.

Ray: Tonight I wanna pay back Liverpool an' everybody else who's given me the support and er, really do the song proud.

Back live...

Kate Thornton:  Please welcome back Ray!

Ray sings...

¯ When you walk through a storm ¯ Hold your head up high ¯ And don't be afraid of the dark ¯ At the end of a storm ¯ There's a golden sky ¯ And the sweet silver song of a lark ¯ Walk on, through wind ¯ Walk on, through the rain ¯ Though your dreams be tossed and blown ¯ Walk on ¯ Walk on ¯ With hope in your heart ¯ And you'll never walk alone ¯ You'll never walk alone! ¯ Walk on ¯ Walk on ¯ With hope ¯ Hope in your heart ¯ And you'll never walk alone ¯ You'll ne-e-e-e-e-v-e-e-r walk al-o-o-o-o-ne! ¯

(Ray wipes his eyes)

(Cheering and Applause)

(Ray is very emotional and a bit tearful after singing the song. He turns his back on the audience, wipes his eyes some more, takes a few deep breaths and tries his best to hold it together.)

Louis Walsh:  Ray, well done. (Cheers continue, Ray wipes more tears away) Ray... fantastic performance. Ray, for such a young guy, you've done amazingly well on this show. I love your attitude. That was a great, great song, you should be very proud of yourself Ray Quinn.

Sharon Osbourne:  (Welling up) Ray! Will you stop it! Because you'll get me going now and I can't say what I want to say! ... Stop it!

Ray: Sorry. (Crying and laughing at once)

(Cheering and Applause)

(Sharon begins to cry. Simon puts a comforting arm around her for a few seconds.)

Kate Thornton:  Okay, Sharon?

Sharon Osbourne:  (Shakes her head. Clearly unable to talk)

Kate Thornton:  Okay... Simon?

Simon Cowell:  Ray, you... you had a conversation with me on the day I put you through to the finals and you said the me "Simon, I won't let you down" and you haven't.

Ray: Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  So Ray? Why the tears tonight?

Ray: Just all week like, I've been worried about the song because... I've been worried about the song because you know, it's such a big song and it means a lot to me family and a lot of people that I know, and I just sang it for them, really.

(Cheering and Applause)

Kate Thornton:  Well, he's in tears, Sharon's in tears and he really needs your votes for that final next Saturday. (Kate gives out the voting details) ...Ladies and gentlemen, on your feet for Ray.
