Ben Collett-Mills begins his Bryan Adams number on X Factor semifinal night.
On Ben's intro clip he speaks about his emotional roller-coaster X-Factor experience. He also reveals that at times he's doubted whether he is good enough for the finals. Then Simon appears during the intro VT, recommending that Ben lightens up!
So, it's not the most positive intro, coming on the back of reports that Ben threatened to walk off the show a couple of weeks ago because he was unhappy with the choice of Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like this" as the winner's song.
We're glad Ben didn't walk, because his talent is blindingly obvious even if he can't see it! He proves this again tonight as he sings Bryan Adams' rock ballad and mega hit "Everything I Do I Do It For You". This song from the soundtrack of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves broke UK records after topping the charts for 16 consecutive weeks back in 1991.
Ben is open-shirted casual for this number and his long wispy hair and hint of stubble make him an ideal candidate for Robin Hood's merry band. He's up on a high-stool, the microphone stand is his Maid Marion, he rocks her in his arms and softly sings about his love.
We're waiting for Ben to jump off his stool and turn up the volume, and sure enough half-way through, he gets up and rocks it. However he doesn't get carried away with himself up there and closes the song out softly, delivering the lyric with all the sensitivity and expression it deserves.
It's a fine rendition and Simon Cowell tells Ben "that is by far the best performance that you've had in weeks". It's enough to lighten Ben up and keep him very much in contention for a place in the final.

Panel-Bites:

Introductions...

Kate Thornton:  Okay, time to hear from the last remaining act from the the '25 and Overs' and Sharon. (Kate laughs as Sharon puts her glass down in a hurry)

Sharon Osbourne:  Oh, please vote for Ben, it's Ben! Please vote!

Intro clip...

Ben: Last week waiting for the results I was really, really nervous.

Kate Thornton:  (Flashback to last week's results) Ben, we'll see you next Saturday!

Sharon Osbourne:  When Kate said he was through it all became a blur because I wasn't sure. Then I felt Ben's hand squeeze and I'm like "Oh God!"

Ben: I feel like me and Sharon have been on such a long journey together. In a way she's been like a surrogate mother to me.

Barbara: (Ben's mum) To Ben this competition means a whole new life and I never want this to end for him.

Ben: Being in a competition like this is an emotional roller coaster. There have been times when I've been thinking to myself "Am I actually good enough to do this?"

Louis Walsh:  Ben has issues with his confidence and he has to realise how good he is.

Simon Cowell:  He's got to lighten up. 100,000 people wanted to be where he is now. Remember that, lighten up.

Sharon Osbourne:  I look into his eyes and see how much he wants it and he needs it and I want it so much for him to win. I just so want him to win.

Ben: I just want to get to the final. It means everything to me. I don't know what else to say. It just means everything.

Back live...

Kate Thornton:  Ladies and gentlemen, Ben!

(Cheering and Applause)

Ben sings...

¯ Look into my eyes ¯ You will see ¯ What you mean to me ¯ Search your heart, search your soul ¯ When you find me there you'll search no more ¯ Don't tell me it's not worth trying for ¯ You can't tell me it's not worth dying for ¯ You know it's true you ¯ Everything I do ¯ I do it for you ¯ Look into my heart ¯ You will find ¯ I would give it all ¯ I would sacrifice ¯ Don't tell me it's not worth fighting for ¯ I can't help it, there's nothing I want more ¯ You know it's true ¯ Everything I do ¯ I do it for you ¯ There is no love ¯ Like your love ¯ And no other ¯ Could be more love ¯ There's nowhere ¯ Unless you're there ¯ All the time ¯ All the way, yeah ¯ You know it's true ¯ Everything I do, I do it for you... ¯ Yeah-h-h-h-h-h-h ¯ I would fight for you ¯ I would die for you ¯ Walk the wire for you ¯ Oh, I'd die for you ¯ You know it's true ¯ Everything I do, I do it for you... ¯

(Cheering and Applause)

Simon Cowell:  Okay... Okay... Um... Ben... Ben... I think... (Audience settles)...Thank you... I think that is by far the best performance that you've had in weeks. (Cheers) I said... I said to Sharon, I wish all three of you were in the final because I genuinely don't think anyone deserves to go home after the first three songs. I thought that was a terrific performance. Do what you do best, sing with passion, well done. Great!

Ben: Thank you.

Simon Cowell:  Great.

Louis Walsh:  Ben, I've always been a fan of your voice. I think you've got a brilliant rock soul voice. But I always thought you were going to make the final. But you're only gonna make the final Ben, if people lift the phones and vote for you now. I hope they do. You deserve to be in the final.

(Cheering and Applause)

Sharon Osbourne:  Well, Ben, I have to hand it to you. You chose the song and you nailed it. It was all you this week and (Sharon smiles) you made the right choice.

Ben: Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  So is he your choice for next week's final? (Kate gives out the voting details) (To Ben) You feel relieved! (Laughs) But you're back later Ben! Ladies and gentlemen, it's Ben!
