Ray Quinn lets rip during his X Factor performance of "My Way".
We can see why Simon dropped his phone when Ray told him that his "own choice" song tonight is going to be "My Way". This song is about a man who's nearing the end, reflecting on life's journey with a dash of pride and just a smidgen of regret. About a man who's happy that he's hung onto his principles and who's somewhat amused that he's made it thus far...
Ah, the penny's dropped! It's all so clear: 'Life' is 'The X Factor'; 'the end is near', just 2 weeks away actually; Ray's still here and this amuses him; he's stuck to his guns; 'regrets he has a few', maybe a few of those spins; he's bit off more than he could chew, probably too many MacDonalds (no, not the MacDonald Brothers!); 'through it all'... he's 'stood tall' and sung it his way!
Sharon Osbourne and mentor Simon Cowell give Ray Quinn a standing ovation for his "My Way" performance.Ray is definitely singing Sinatra's signature tune his own way and despite his young years he's very believable.

His voice may not be the strongest in the contest but he makes the most of what he's got, and as always he soars in the watchability stakes. He's doing it his way and he's doing it with style.

Panel-Bites:

Introductions...

Kate Thornton:  Okay, now we're back with the 16 to 24s and Simon.

Simon Cowell:  Okay. For his second and I hope not his final performance ever, it's Ray.

Intro clip...

Ray: This song is really me. It's got Ray Quinn stamped all over it.

Simon Cowell:  When he told me the song he'd chosen I dropped the phone.

Ray: Throughout the competition, you know, I've had me kicks and I've had me downs and I've had everything else, you know. This song, I feel is all what has happened to me.

Simon Cowell:  I think this song is directed at Sharon and Louis.

Ray: I can't wait to just sing this from the bottom of my heart because that's where it lies.

Back live...

Kate Thornton:  Ladies and gentlemen, Ray!

(Cheering and Applause)

Ray sings...

¯ And now ¯  The end is near ¯  And so I face ¯  My final curtain ¯  My friends ¯  I'll say it clear ¯  I'll state my case ¯  0f which I'm certain ¯  I've planned ¯  Each charted course ¯  Each careful step ¯  Along the byway ¯  And more ¯  Much more than this ¯  I did it my way ¯  I've loved ¯  I've laughed and cried ¯  I've had my fill ¯  My share of losing ¯  But now ¯  As tears subside ¯  I find it all ¯  So amusing ¯  To think ¯  I did all that ¯  And may I say ¯  Not in a shy way ¯  Oh no, no not me ¯  I did it my way ¯  Yes, there were times ¯  I'm sure you knew ¯  When I bit off ¯  More than I could chew ¯  But through it all ¯  When there was doubt ¯  I ate it up ¯  I spat it out ¯  I faced it all ¯  And I stood tall ¯  And did it my way! ¯

(Cheering and Applause. Sharon and Simon are up on their feet.)

Sharon Osbourne:   Ray... Ray... you sang with such great emotion there. You gave it 200 million per cent of your soul. (Cheers)  And you know what? I have to say, you are a funny little thing. You're like a little jack russell, you will not go away! And you're very talented, you know. You're a very, very good artist.

Ray: Thank you.

Sharon Osbourne:  And I just wish you good luck, I really do. But well done. A very brave performance.

Ray: Thank you.

Louis Walsh:  Absolutely.

Sharon Osbourne:  A huge, huge song to take on. And you did it, boy. You did it.

Ray: Thank you.

Louis Walsh:  Ray, I agree with Sharon. Every week you come out, you give 100%. You're one of the most professional acts in this contest. It was a really big song for a small guy, but well done.

Ray: (Laughs) Thank you.

Simon Cowell:  Raymond... after that performance, you in my opinion now deserve a place in the semifinal. (Cheers) I have to say something... Ray... I... You know we... I took a chance with you. And one day you said to me "I hope you'll be proud." And after that performance Raymond Quinn, I'm very proud of you.

(Cheering and Applause)

Ray: (Smiles) Thank you. (Laughs)

Kate Thornton:  You've been...

Ray: (Gives Simon the thumbs-up) Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  You've been trying to win the panel over, but to hear praise like that, Ray, must mean a lot. What would you like to say back?

Ray: That means a lot to me like... completely down to me heart, thank you so much. And... arrhh, thank you so much man! (Cheers)

Kate Thornton:  Now, next week is the semifinal. Simon says you deserve a place there. What would it mean to you to be here next Saturday, Ray?

Ray: To be here next Saturday, I'd still be doin' it my way! (Laughter)

Kate Thornton:  So are you gonna let him do it his way next Saturday at the semifinal? ...(Kate gives out the voting details) ...

Ray: (Whilst Kate gives out the details) Thank you, thank you so much. Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  ...Ladies and gentlemen, doing it his way, Ray.
