Ray Quinn reflects on last week's performance of "The Way You Look Tonight".
Ray is feeling upbeat on the back of last week's comments from the panel. He's also buzzing after meeting up with Barry Manilow for rehearsals.
Barry's performance tip to Ray is "You just gotta see her"... 'her' being 'Mandy'.

Ray laughs at the prospect of picking out his Mandy from the audience, however, watching him perform this song it's clear that he's taken Barry's advice on board.  You can bet there's at least one young lady in the audience sitting pretty at the end of Ray's wistful gaze!
After his rehearsals Ray Quinn gives Barry Manilow an open armed goodbye hug.
Scott English originally wrote the lyric as 'Brandy' not 'Mandy'. Scott himself had a number 12 hit with Brandy in the UK back in 1971. He later renamed it for the US market to avoid a clash with The Looking Glass number 'Brandy (You're a fine girl)'. It's a fabulous song and a huge favourite amongst Barry Manilow fans. Ray doesn't disappoint with this  rendition. He really acts it out emotionally and tells the story of the song.Ray Quinn sings to his Mandy in the X Factor audience.
Surprisingly, Simon is the least enthusiastic about the performance out of all the judges. Simon tells him, "you're gonna have to work a little bit harder second time round". Ray answers with a smile and promises he will.

Panel-Bites:

Introductions...

Kate Thornton:  Let's hear now from Simon and his 16 to 24s.

Simon Cowell:  Okay. First up tonight... young man... it's Ray.

Intro clip...

Ray: Last week's performance for me was like amazing.

Ray: (Flashback to his performance of 'The Way You Look tonight') ¯ Just the way you look tonight ¯

Simon Cowell:  Ray earned his right to be in the final four last week when he proved that he's not just an entertainer, he's also a singer.

Sharon Osbourne:  This has been your best vocal performance.

Ray: That is just what I've waited for all week.

Sharon Osbourne:  He's still got a hell of a fight on his hands to stay in this contest.

Louis Walsh:  (Flashback to last week) Well Ray, I want to be honest with yer. Simon believes Leona is going to win this competition.

Simon Cowell:  They're trying these little digs about "I'm pushing Leona more than Ray" but I put as much work into Ray every week to keep him in the competition as I do Leona.

Ray: Simon's always made the right decisions on me. Like, I feel as if he knows me.

Simon Cowell:  There he goes every week, battling to stay in the competition.

Ray: I am a little fighter. (Laughs) I wanna make the most of each and every single day that I'm here because it means so much to me like, it's unbelievable.

Ray: (Greeting Barry Manilow at rehearsals) Lovely to meet yer!

Barry Manilow: And you.

Ray: (To camera) Meeting Barry Manilow was amazing, you know he's... he is a complete legend.

Ray: (Rehearsing with Barry) ¯ ...But I sent you away ¯Oh Mandy ¯

Barry Manilow: (With Ray in rehearsals) When you hit "Oh Mandy" you just gotta see her. You know, whoever she might be to you.

Barry Manilow: (To camera) Once you start to sing it to a specific person your entire interpretation of the song begins to change.

Barry Manilow: (With Ray in rehearsals)  If you put her in front of you you'll forget you're on a stool, you'll forget there's an audience out there. Just make her as real as you can and everything will just disappear. Just tell us this story.

Ray: (To camera) I'm so glad to get that advice off someone like that... you know, like Barry Manilow... and I'm gonna take it with me on Saturday night. I can't wait to put it into practice and look for me Mandy (Laughing) in the audience.

Back live...

Kate Thornton:  Ladies and gentlemen, it's Ray!

(Cheering and Applause)

Ray sings...

¯ I remember all my life ¯ Rainin' down as cold as ice ¯ A shadow of a man ¯ A face through a window ¯ Crying in the night ¯ The night goes into... ¯ ...Morning. Just another day ¯ Happy people pass my way ¯ I look into their eyes ¯ I see a memory ¯ I never realised ¯ How happy you made me ¯ Oh Mandy ¯ Well you came and you gave without takin' ¯ But I sent you away ¯ Oh Mandy ¯ You kissed me and stopped me from shakin' ¯ Girl I need you today ¯ Oh Mandy ¯ I'm standin' on the edge of time ¯ I walked away when love was mine ¯ I was caught up in a world ¯ 0f uphill climbin' ¯ The tears are in my mind ¯ And nothing is rhymin' ¯ Oh Mandy ¯ Well you came and you gave without takin' ¯ But I sent you away ¯ Oh Mandy ¯ You kissed me and stopped me from shakin' ¯ Girl I need you today ¯ Oh-h-h-h-h-h-h Ma-a-a-ndy ¯ Yesterday's a dream ¯ I face the morning ¯ Crying on the breeze ¯ The pain is call-i-i-i-i-ng ¯ Mandy ¯ Well you came and you gave without takin' ¯ But I sent you away ¯ Oh Mandy ¯ Well you kissed me and stopped me from shakin' ¯ Girl I need you today ¯ Oh Mand-y-y-y-y-y ¯ Girl I ne-e-eed yo-o-o-o-o-o-u ¯

(Cheering and Applause)

Louis Walsh:  Ray, no dancing tonight, you came out and you sang the song, and you performed the song. Ray, you're a fantastic fighter. That was a very, very convincing performance. Well done!

(Cheering and Applause)

Sharon Osbourne:  Yeah, Ray, I have to agree with Louis. Last week, this week, you stopped doing the song and dance man and you're the singer, and it really shows. Very elegant performance. Really well done.

Ray: Thank you.

(Cheering and Applause)

Simon Cowell:  Ah... you know, we had to change the arrangement last night, you've only had a day to learn this new one. I thought your performance was very good Ray. It's not the best I've heard you sing yet. Um, I think you've got... you've got another big, big song coming up, but you're gonna have to work a little bit harder second time round...

Ray: I will.

Simon Cowell:  I think...

Ray: I will.

Simon Cowell:  ... I do.

Ray: (Smiling and giving Simon a double thumbs-up) I will... Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  Okay... so, did Ray bag your vote with that? (Kate gives out the voting details) He's gonna be back to sing again later, but for now, it's Ray!

Ray: Thank you.
