Introductions...Kate Thornton: Simon, we're back with you.
Simon Cowell: Right. The third of my four acts...
Sharon Osbourne: Oh please.
Louis Walsh: Boring!
Simon Cowell: ...It's Raymond Quinn.
Intro clips...Ray: Since I've been a little boy, like, you know, I've loved dancing, I've loved singing and I've loved acting. I remember watching the 'X Factor' and I used to go, "I'd love to do that you know and you know what song I'd sing dad? I'd sing Ain't That A Kick In The Head." Now it's not in me living room, it's on a massive stage. That was all my thoughts and dreams and feelings all rolled up into one. It all came out last Saturday and it was amazing.
Louis Walsh: I thought he 'was' big band. Nailed it... but, you know, where's he gonna go this week? I don't know.
Ray: (At rehearsals. He greets ABBA's Björn with a handshake) You okay? (Laughs)
Simon Cowell: How the hell do you do a swing version of an ABBA song? But we are gonna attempt that.
Ray: (At rehearsals with Björn) ¯ I feel like I win when I lose. ¯
Ray: (To camera) The songs I love are swing, but I love to perform any song.
Björn Ulvaeus: (Speaking to Ray in rehearsals) Give it some of your own personality, because I can see talking to you, you've got a lot of it.
Ray: (Laughs)
Ray: (To camera) I want to take this ABBA song and put the Ray Quinn twist on it. (Laughs)
Back live...Kate Thornton: Ladies and gentlemen, it's Ray!
(Cheering and Applause.) Ray sings...
¯My my, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender ¯ Oh yeah, and I have met my destiny in quite a similar way ¯ The history book on the shelf ¯ Is always repeating itself ¯ Waterloo, I was defeated, you won the war ¯ Waterloo, promise to love you for ever more ¯ Waterloo, couldn't escape if I wanted to ¯ Waterloo, knowing my fate is to be with you ¯ Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa ¯ Waterloo, finally facing my Waterloo ¯ My my, I tried to hold you back but you were stronger ¯ Oh yeah, and now it seems my only chance is giving up the fight ¯ But how could I ever refuse ¯ Yeah, I feel like I win when I lose ¯ Oh-oh-oh ¯ Waterloo, I was defeated, you won the war ¯ Waterloo, promise to love you for ever more ¯ Waterloo, I was defeated, you won the war ¯ Waterloo, promise to love you for ever more ¯ Yeah! ¯ Waterloo, couldn't escape if I wanted to ¯ Yeah! Waterloo, knowing my fate is to be with youWhoa, whoa, whoa, whoa ¯ Waterloo, finally facing my Waterloo ¯ Whoa-oh-ohhh ¯ Waterloo, finally facing my Waterloo ¯ Yeah! ¯
(Cheering and Applause.) Louis Walsh: Ray, you're a really nice guy, you're a great song and dance man. Ray, the show is called the 'X Factor', it's not called the 'Swing Factor'. (Audience boos) If it was the 'Swing Factor' you'd win. You did the very same thing as you did last week. Having the 'X Factor' is about someone that's versatile. I think you're a one-trick pony and if you're a serious contender in this competition you must change. I've had enough of all the swing stuff.
Ray: Okay. (Boos for Louis) I know, I probably have stuck to the same thing but me and Simon, you know, agreed that we'd do this sort of thing with...
Louis Walsh: You've been mentored wrong. It was the wrong song. It's the same as last week.
Ray: Well I enjoyed it Louis. (Smiles)
Louis Walsh: (To more boos) Everybody else changed... Everybody else changed.
Sharon Osbourne: (Laughing) Ray, it's... you know, you don't... I don't know what to say. You're like a, um... you've got an old soul. I mean, I understand where you're coming from. I love what you do. It's old rat pack, I love that whole thing...
Ray: Thank you.
Sharon Osbourne: ...And do you know what, more power to you. Nobody, you know... there's a few people... Michael Bublé does it. He's not as good dancer as you are though...
Ray: Ah! (Laughs)
Sharon Osbourne: But erm, you know what? It's your thing, that's what you love doing, that's your genre that you're into and so you know God bless you.
(Cheering and Applause.) Ray: Yeah. Thank you, thank you. I mean, I'll do somethin' else. I'll... I'll do anything else but you know, this is what I love... and we put a side on this, me and Simon.
Simon Cowell: Look...
Sharon Osbourne: Yeah. It's what defines you.
Simon Cowell: ...Ray, I've got to give you top marks for that and I'll tell you why. Because... (Cheering and Applause.) ...okay, it wasn't the best vocal we've heard today. Pickin' up on what Louis said... that's an idiotic thing to say, Louis.
Louis Walsh: It's not. Simon, it's my opinion! You voice your opinion
Simon Cowell: But... with respect...
Louis Walsh: ...And you're so smug!
Simon Cowell: Yeah, with respect...
Louis Walsh: Smug, smug, smug!
Simon Cowell: ...not many people care about your opinion... (Laughter)
Louis Walsh: Well, Simon, you'd be surprised.
Sharon Osbourne: Oh no! No! No!
Louis Walsh: I won the show last year.
Simon Cowell: The point is...
Louis Walsh: (Banging on the table) I won the show last year.
Simon Cowell: Oh, shut up.
Louis Walsh: You lost the show.
Simon Cowell: My point is... is...
Louis Walsh: Excuse me, Simon, it's not all about you.
Sharon Osbourne: Simon, that's very disrespectful.
Simon Cowell: What is?
Sharon Osbourne: Very disrespectful that comment.
Louis Walsh: You're so disrespectful. You're so smug. The public are bored with you.
Simon Cowell: No they're not.
Kate Thornton: Okay...
Louis Walsh: They're bored!
Simon Cowell: They're not. They're not.
Kate Thornton: So Ray? Very briefly...
Simon Cowell: My point is, Ray, is picking up on what Louis said, is that you have to stick to what you're doing best. No-one has ever done a swing version of ABBA before. It would have been easy to do a silly McDougall brothers karaoke, whatever they're called... (Some laughter followed by lots of boos) you know, but you... but you took a risk and that's what it's all about and you are doing your thing very well.
Ray: Thank you very much.
Kate Thornton: Thank you very much. Ray...
Ray: I'm happy with me...
Kate Thornton: ...I'd love to hear what you've got to say. You're happy?
Ray: I... I... I...
Kate Thornton: Good!
Ray: I'm happy that Simon's happy, me mentor. An' I'm... I'm... I'm really thrilled with the comments and you know, I'm ready for anything so hopefully the qudience keep me her next week I'll be back... (Laughs)
Kate Thornton: Okay, well his govener's happy, but did Ray put a smile on your face tonight? (Kate gives out the voting details) Ladies and gentlemen, swinging ABBA this week, it's Ray!
(Cheering and Applause.)
