Song 2

Andy Pemberton from Journey South singing Rod Stewart's "You're In My Heart" alongside brother Carl on X Factor semi-final night.
Journey South perform a no frills version of Rod Stewart's "You're In My Heart". For musical accompaniment they have a young lady on violin and Carl on his acoustic guitar. It's a simple arrangement and it sounds beautiful.

The brothers have an air of freshness about them in both styling and performance. They are casually cool in light khaki jackets over blue jeans and their wholesome pure toned vocals resonate sincerity.

Audience arms sway and hands clap out the beat. There's a lot of 'feel good' factor about, and plenty of 'X' factor too!

Panel-Bites:

Simon Cowell:  (Introduction) Well, I've only got one group left! It's Journey South.

Intro clip...

Simon Cowell:  These guys were singing in pubs and clubs. Now they are in front of 11 million people every week.

Andy:  When we'd finish a gig before, we'd come out the pub and someone might say "That was all right", but like now we're bombarded with people saying "That was brilliant!" ... We're begining to feel now, you know, how stars actually feel and being at the premiere this week, I mean... you know, we got out the car and flash bulbs and people screaming for you.

Carl:  It's a bit overwhelming but, (Smiling) you know I'm trying to get used to it.

Simon Cowell:  Two of the most genuine people I have ever met. I haven't seen one change in them from day one and in my opinion they deserve a break.

Andy:  We're very grounded lads and we come from a loving family and we'll always be the same. We'll always be like that.

Simon Cowell:  Make no mistake, these guys desperately want to win this competition.

Andy:  Music is our lives. We live it, we breathe it and we want to do this forever.

Journey South sing...

Kate Thornton:  Louis? Your comments please?

Louis Walsh:  Everybody loves the two boys. I mean, Carl and Andy are two of the nicest guys you're gonna meet...

Audience Member:  I love you!

Louis Walsh:  ...They've progressed every week. Everybody in the north of England is voting for them. They're gonna have a huge career. (Cheers)

Carl:  Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  Okay, thanks Louis. Sharon?

Sharon Osbourne:  Well, unlike my fellow judges, I don't like to knock the competition and I thought that was really good. (I) Love Rod Stewart songs... won you over. You know I love you anyway.

Andy:  Thank you Sharon.

Carl:  Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you Sharon. Simon? You are mentoring Journey South, what would you like to add?

Simon Cowell:  You know, just week in, week out, you just keep doing what you do best, you know. Like I said on the film, you haven't changed one iota, I really, really, really hope you guys make the final because you deserve it. (Audience Cheers)

Andy:  We do too. (Laughs)

Kate Thornton:  Okay, thank you judges. So, if you want to vote for Journey South... (Kate gives out the voting numbers etc) ...but for now, let's hear it for Journey South. (Andy kisses Kate and he and Carl walk off stage)

Journey South
Song 2: Let It Be  Check out 'Let It Be' at Amazon.co.uk (The Beatles  Check out 'The Beatles' at Amazon.co.uk)
Song 1

Smart-suited Andy and Carl Pemberton enjoy their second set of panel plaudits after singing The Beatles' "Let It Be".
"Let It Be" certainly isn't a typical Journey South performance. Carl appears first, in a shimmering black suit, white shirt and dark tie. He's guitar-less throughout the performance, and Andy-less for just the first couple of bars.
Andy materialises on the other side of the stage to sing his intro. Then, the sharp-suited brothers join forces centre stage, in a neatly worked vocal and visual interplay.
Suddenly we hear other voices waft into the arrangement and soon Andy and Carl are joined on The X Factor stage by a 20-strong choir!

As the choir arrives, the brothers move stage-front to work the audience. They rejoin centre-stage and Carl's vocal freestyling is impressive as they close out the number with their usual gusto.

Somehow one feels that the performance shouldn't really work. After all it's not what Journey South are all about; the razzamataz, the shiny suits and the choir. It does work though, and that's because the 3 key Journey South ingredients are prominent in the mix; quality vocals, oodles of oomph and pot-loads of passion!

Panel-Bites:

Simon Cowell:  (Introduction) I'm very, very proud to reintroduce you to Andy and Carl... it's Journey South.

Journey South sing...

Kate Thornton:  Louis, your comments please?

Louis Walsh:  Well, Andy and Carl, you know you've come a long way, you've worked really, really hard. Everybody likes you two guys, that was a great song, a great performance and you deserve to be in the final four, absolutely.

Andy:  Thanks Louis.

Kate Thornton:  Okay, thanks Louis. Sharon?

Sharon Osbourne:  Ya, that has to be your best performance to date guys... (Cheers) and also you look fabulous tonight, stunning.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you very much. Simon you're mentoring Journey South. Agree with that?.

Simon Cowell:  Well, I want to address what I want to say to you two boys... which is... We've been working together for a while now. This is... can be a very difficult business, the music business, and you meet some horrors along the way, but it has been my pleasure and privilege to work with, in my opinion, two of the nicest people I've ever met... (Cheers) ...and you, you have... you've paid your dues... you've paid your dues. You've played the terrible clubs. You almost gave it up six months ago. You've come a long way. I agree, I think it was your strongest performance today and I don't think it will be the right final without you two in it. I hope you're there. I really do.

Kate Thornton:  Wow! Great comments tonight guys. What would you like to say back to the panel?

Andy:  Ahm... I just wanna say that I can't believe how far we have come. It just means the world to us to be up here together and Simon what you just said there is just the nicest thing you could have ever said. Erm, we just wanna thank everyone at home. We were thinking during the week that people are actually spending money to keep us here and it's just such a nice thought and we want to thank you so much. Ehm, please get us into that final.

Carl:  Please.

Andy:  We will not let you down, we promise. (Cheers)

Carl:  Thank you!

Kate Thornton:  You are so close to gettng through to that final. All four of you tonight. How much would it mean to you to be on this stage next Saturday, guys?

Carl:  Absolutely everything. It means the world to us. We'd just love to be in that final.

Andy:  It just means everything to us. We can't exp... can't put it into words, it means the world to us.

Kate Thornton:  So they can't articulate it but you can certainly vote for it. Do Journey South get your vote tonight? ... (Kate gives out the voting numbers etc) ...(To Journey South) They love you in here. (To The Audience) So let's hear it for them... it's Journey South. (Andy gives Kate a kiss on the cheek and Journey South exit the stage)
