Song 2

Andy Abraham enjoying life on the red carpet of a West End film premiere.
Andy opens tonight's semi-final proceedings singing Bryan Adams' blockbuster ballad, which rode high in the charts for almost 6 months back in 1991. He greets the audience with a confident smile and a smooth vocal. However, we still think there's a bit of a problem with this number, namely the arrangement.
The magic in the original comes from the way its passion and intensity build up gradually. This arrangement rushes in awkwardly, skipping lyrics in a shortcut to the hook of the song.
Andy makes some amends during the second half, with a beautiful soulful interpretation of the lyric.
Unfortunately the soulful moment is ruined when Andy plucks his young son and daughter out from the audience and sits them on the stage step, so he can plant a parental slant on the lyric "Everything I Do, I Do It For You"!
It's all a bit too corny for us. Yes, his kids are lovely kids, and their reaction to being on show in front of the live audience and millions of viewers is a very natural one... they look quite uncomfortable.
People, including ourselves, will question whether this scene was a meaningful family moment or a vote-pulling stunt. We may never know, but just the question mark spoils it for us.

Panel-Bites:

Sharon Osbourne:  (Introduction) What was that Kate? I can't hear I'm so excited?

Kate Thornton:  They are a bit rowdy tonight.

Sharon Osbourne:  What?

Simon Cowell:  You're up.

Kate Thornton:  Who is up first from your lot?

Sharon Osbourne:  Oh! Andy.

Intro clip...

Andy:  Earlier this week I went to to the King Kong premiere. (Footage of Andy arriving at the premiere) Red carpet, paparazzis, the fans, screaming my name... I feel like a star (Speaking at the premiere) "I'm loving it. Lovin' it."

Sharon Osbourne:  He's stayed so grounded. His feet are firmly on the floor and yet I know he wants more, and why shouldn't he?

Andy:  (Interviewed at the premiere) I want to wake up every day and be able to live this dream, it is amazing.

Sharon Osbourne:  He may feel like a star and look like a star but if I choose the wrong songs again his dream of becoming a star will be over.

Simon Cowell:  (Flashback - speaking after Andy's performance of 'Easy Lover' last week.) You are in trouble.

Andy:  I would hate it to be the wrong song at this stage of the competition... that gets me chucked out. I have really got to put in an amazing performance to bring me right back there. I want to be in that final. I really do. I just don't want it to end.

Andy sings...

Sharon Osbourne:  (Overheard, off-mike, whilst the crowd is cheering Andy) Don't you dare! Don't you even dare!

Kate Thornton:  Okay, Louis, your comments please?

Louis Walsh:  Andy, you know, you are a great, great singer, you're a really nice guy, and I thought that was... that was good, not great, but good. (Some groans and boos from the audience)

Kate Thornton:  Okay, thank you Louis. Simon?

Simon Cowell:  Ah... You know what, I have to agree with Louis. You're a great guy Andy... I still don't think we have seen you at your best for a few weeks and that was, to me, not good enough. (Some boos)

Audience Member:  I love Andy!

Kate Thornton:  Okay, Sharon you are mentoring Andy, what did you think?

Audience Member:  Oh tell the truth! (Laughter)

Sharon Osbourne:  I always do!

Simon Cowell:  Unless you are talking to me.

Sharon Osbourne:  Let me... listen... Andy chose the song, I chose it with him. He sang it beautifully, he was very passionate about his performance, to me it's great and it's not down to bric and brac here, it's down to the public!

Kate Thornton:  She's absolutely right. Andy will be back later to perform for us once again, but if you want to see him at next week's final... (Kate gives out the voting numbers etc) ...the lines open after all four acts have performed their first number. But for now let's hear it for Andy... (Cheers, Andy exits the stage waving)

Song 2: Lately  Check out 'Lately' at Amazon.co.uk (Stevie Wonder  Check out 'Stevie Wonder' at Amazon.co.uk)
Song 1

Andy Abraham puts himself right back in the running with his second song of The X Factor semi-final, Stevie Wonder's "Lately".

After receiving a mixed reaction from the judges to his first song, Andy needs to find his wow factor with Stevie Wonder's "Lately", or else, as the song says "this time could mean goodbye"!

Andy responds brilliantly. He cranks up the intensity during the second part of the song, and channels every ounce of his emotion into an astonishingly powerful vocal finish.

The panel are back to loving Andy again and just like last week, he's pulled it back on his second song.

Louis somehow manages to be positive and negative about Andy in the same sentence! He tells him, "You sang every note as if you meant it, as if it was going to be your last performance. Well done."

Sharon disagrees with the "last performance" remark, and so does Andy who, while Kate gives out the voting numbers, urges the great British public to "get me to that final!"

Panel-Bites:

Sharon Osbourne:  (Introduction) All right, before we go any further I just wanna say to little Amy and Will who's are home with their nanna, "Go to bed now, it's late".

Audience:  Arrrhhh!

Sharon Osbourne:  Anyway...

Simon Cowell:  But they're 25?

Sharon Osbourne:  Oh behave!...Behave! ...Andy.

Andy sings...

Kate Thornton:  Simon, your comments please?

Simon Cowell:  Andy, I'm happy for you. I think that you have been overshadowed in the last three weeks by Brenda, if I'm being honest with you... but, it was a tentative start to the song and it was almost as if you were imagining that it was all going to end tonight... and 'then' you got to that last part of the song and every ounce of your emotion went into that and I thought it was fantastic. (Cheers) Fantastic. Good for you.

Kate Thornton:  Okay, thank you Simon. Louis?

Louis Walsh:  Andy yeah... so much better than your first song. You absolutely nailed that and you sang every note as if you meant it, as if it was going to be your last performance. Well done. (Cheers)

Kate Thornton:  Sharon, you're Andy's mentor, what would you like to add to those comments?

Sharon Osbourne:  It ain't going to be your last performance mister. (Cheers) I am just... I have to say I am so honoured that I've had you to mentor, I just adore you Andy...

Andy:  (Quietly) Thank you. (Cheers)

Kate Thornton:  Wow, accolades indeed. So Andy, two sets of comments from the judges tonight. What would you like to say back to the panel?

Andy:  Yeah, I'd just like to say, you know, I hope this isn't my last performance. I really feel that I deserve to be here and I want to be in the final and you know... this is going out to the viewers... the viewers at home... Ahm, I don't want to go back to being a bin man, you know. So I'm lookin'... I'm lookin' for you guys to help me to get to the final, so please, vote for me, vote. (Cheers) Please!

Kate Thornton:  So you heard it from the heart there and the voting lines are open right now so if Andy does get your vote tonight, pick up and call for him. (Kate gives out the voting numbers etc) ...Let's hear it for him?

Andy:  Get me to that final!

Kate Thornton:  Oh, he's still goin'...

Andy:  Get me to the final!

Kate Thornton:  ...He wants... he wants to see the final!

Andy:  Get me there. Please.

Kate Thornton:  (Laughing) It's Andy.

Andy:  Thank you so much. (Kate kisses him on the cheek and Andy walks off stage, waving to the audience)
