Song 2

Journey South: Somehow Sharon Osbourne doesn't think it's going to be a 'Bad Day' for them today!
Whoever wins this year's X Factor contest will need to be able to cut the ice in the contemporary market and Journey South couldn't really get any more contemporary than their first song tonight. Daniel Powter's "Bad Day" is still in the charts!
For most of the song the brothers take turns in a nicely worked vocal interplay. There's plenty of passion and a ration of raunch in their rendition and it sounds fabulous.
The audience loves it as does the panel. Sharon tells Andy and Carl that she doesn't think it's going to be a bad day for them.

Panel-Bites:

Simon Cowell:  (Introduction) Ladies and gentlemen, Journey South.

Intro clip...

Carl:  Only a few months ago he was a electrician and I was a plumber and now we're singing live to millions of people. It's just a world a way from what we were doing before.

Andy:  My typical day was y'know, with the baby. We would get up, feed him... I'd be off to work and then the weekend would come around... Me and Carl would be doing gigs, we'd be humping our gear around. Y'know just tryin' to make ends meet.

Simon Cowell:  Andy and Carl have done the pubs and clubs for years. They've done their apprenticeship, now in my opinion they deserve the big time.

Andy:  We are so close and to give our dream up now is just unbearable.

Simon Cowell:  I've got one group left. If they get kicked out, I get kicked out.

Journey South sing...

Kate Thornton:  Louis, your comments, please?

Louis Walsh:  Hey guys, great song choice. It's good to hear you singing a new song. I can tell you are pretty nervous though... I can tell. Everybody is nervous here tonight, but well done

Andy:  Cheers Louis.

Carl:  Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  Okay thanks Louis. (Cheers) Sharon?

Sharon Osbourne:  Well, I don't think it's gonna be a bad day. It's gonna be a pretty good day for you. (Cheers)

Kate Thornton:  Thank you Sharon. Simon, you're mentoring Journey South. What did you make of that?

Simon Cowell:  I keep thinking I ought to be negative one week, and I can't. (Cheers) It was great.

Kate Thornton:  Okay. Thank you judges. So do you agree? Does Journey South get your vote tonight?. They'll be back to perform again later, but if you want to take a note of the number to call (Kate gives out the phone numbers etc) ...when the lines open after all five acts have performed their first number. But for now, it's Journey South! (Andy kisses Kate on the cheek and Journey South exit)

Journey South
Song 2: Candle In The Wind  Check out 'Candle In The Wind' at Amazon.co.uk (Elton John  Check out 'Elton John' at Amazon.co.uk)
Song 1

Andy and Carl from Journey South sing Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" as their second song on The X Factor Final 5 show.
Andy and Carl drop the tempo for their second performance tonight. The audience is whooping as they start but they soon calm things with a beautiful, heartfelt rendition of Elton John's classic.
Whilst Journey South sing the studio lights are dimmed, and several open flame fires are installed on stage to enhance the intimacy.
It's a brave and rather risky effort, with their voices accompanied only by Carl on acoustic guitar. However, the stripped down nature of this performance pays off, and it really seems to magnify the impact of their vocals.
Louis tells Carl and Andy they "pulled it off" and Simon defines their performance as being "The X Factor". Sharon avoids giving a proper critique though, saying she can't hear the song without feeling "terribly sad" and blaming Simon for making the song choice.
We, however, can't fault Simon or Journey South on this song choice. It was brilliant!

Panel-Bites:

Simon Cowell:  (Introduction) Okay,a very special performance with a very special song. It's Journey South.

Journey South sing...

Kate Thornton:  Louis, your comments please?

Louis Walsh:  Guys, a really, really unusual choice of song. No tricks, just great harmonies. You absolutely pulled it off. Well done. (Cheers)

Carl:  Thank you.

Andy:  Cheers Louis.

Kate Thornton:  Okay, thanks Louis. Sharon, what did you make of that?

Sharon Osbourne:  Well I thought the song was called candle in the wind? We had a bloody couple of barbecues going! (Laughter) I thought you were going to put The Conways on that... and a pit...

Louis Walsh:  Woooo!

Sharon Osbourne:  ...A real good fire going... anyway.! (Audience boos. Sharon addresses them.) No, behave, behave! Listen, mummy's speaking, please! Actually, no... all joking aside, I must say that this song just represents one thing to me and whenever I hear it I just get terribly sad and I don't want to be sad on a Saturday night. I... I can't hear this song... without feeling horribly sad. So that's all I've got to say about the song choice... which I know wasn't you, it was by your mentor and I know the barbecue wasn't you, too. (Laughter)

Kate Thornton:  Thanks Sharon. Simon?

Sharon Osbourne:  (To Journey South) That was your mentor.

Kate Thornton:  ...Simon, you are mentoring Journey South, what would you like to say about that performance?

Simon Cowell:  (To Sharon) Are you drunk?

Sharon Osbourne:  (Yells at Simon) No! I'm not drunk!

Louis Walsh:  (Panicking!) Don't go there! Don't go there... Don't go there... Nooo! (Louis grabs onto his and Sharon's glasses of water)

Sharon Osbourne:  I'm not drunk. That song...

Simon Cowell:  (Pleading) Guys? ...

Sharon Osbourne:  ...Elton doesn't even...

Simon Cowell:  ...Guys? Guys? ...

Sharon Osbourne:  ...sing that song... ever again!

Simon Cowell:  Shush. (Moves his hand in front of Sharon's mouth)

Sharon Osbourne:  (To Journey South) Neither should you.

Simon Cowell:  That is 'The X Factor', congratulations. (Big cheers)

Kate Thornton:  So, all kind of comments from the judges. What would you like to say back to them, guys?.

Andy:  Ahm, yeah... a bit of a mixture of comments. Ehm... I'm sorry Sharon feels that way about the song.

Sharon Osbourne:  (Shouting over) You don't have to say sorry to me, ever! It is not your fault, it's your mentor's fault.

Andy:  It was a pleasure to sing it actually. (Cheers) We have worked so hard on it... (Andy waits for cheers to subside)... We've worked so hard on that song all week and we've been so nervous about singing that tonight. Erm... I'm just pleased that, y'know, we got through it and I hope for the people at home that they enjoyed it. (Cheers)

Kate Thornton:  Well the voting lines are open now right now. If you're gonna give Journey South your vote... (Kate gives out the voting numbers etc) ...Ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for Journey South! (Andy kisses Kate's cheek and the brothers head off stage)
