Chico Slimani - X Factor Final 8 Show

Song: Hero  Check out 'Hero' at Amazon.co.uk (Enrique Iglesias  Check out 'Enrique Iglesias' at Amazon.co.uk)

What time is it? It's Chico time!
It's that time again!
Chico surprises us tonight with a more serious and vocally challenging song. He has wanted to perform a ballad for a few weeks now and Sharon has finally granted his wish.
We see another side of Chico as he performs Enrique's 'Hero' on an increasingly smoke filled stage. It's a sensitive, intimate performance which only lacks one thing, a great vocal. Having said that, there are none of those screechy sounds we remember from his original audition, in comparison this is definitely an improvement. Chico proves two things tonight, that he can sing and that he is not a fantastic singer. He is a great entertainer though, which is why he has got so far in this contest. He is always watchable, if not always listenable!Chico Slimani smiles to the audience after completing his first ballad during The X Factor finals.
They say there's no smoke without fire, and by the end of tonight's performance Chico was engulfed in smoke... generated by the smoke machine!
Chico's charisma works on the judges. Only Simon supplies the reality check, however even he says he would keep him in the show for next week.

Panel-Bites:

Sharon Osbourne:  (Introduction) Ohhh dear. Oo-oo-oo-oh dear! Those three little words again. "It's Chico time!"

Intro clip...

Chico:  Last Saturday was absolutely amazing.

Sharon Osbourne:  He came into this contest with the most famous judge in the world detesting him.

Chico:  For him to apologise 'and' say he liked me, that was like...whoa! Now I feel like the slate is wiped clean and I've got as much chance as anybody else in the competition to make it to the top.

Sharon Osbourne:  His performance this week is gonna surprise a lot of people. It's something that he's wanted to do for a while and we've said 'no, no, no, no, no!', and I think that he's earnt it... to be able to sing what he wants to sing.

Chico:  I'm gettin' the chance to prove to the country that I can sing.

Sharon Osbourne:  This is a really big gamble for Chico because he's going totally in another direction.

Chico:  So far I've relied on performance and spectacle to keep me through. But tonight there is no running, there is no hiding. It's all about the vocal and if I don't deliver with the vocal then I'm in a whole heap of trouble.

Chico sings...

Kate Thornton:  Louis! Let's start with you. Your comments please.

Louis Walsh:  Chico, when I heard you were gonna do a ballad I thought you were absolutely crazy because the dancing is what sells it for me. But... yer pulled it off and I think you're very brave to leave your comfort zone. (Cheers) ...And, well done! (Chico smiles) ...I still think it's Chico time.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you Louis... Simon?

Simon Cowell:  (Looking at his watch) How much time have I got on this one? (Audience laughter. Chico laughs too.) I was tempted to turn the wind machine up even higher, half-way through. (Laughter followed by a few audience boos) ...No, okay Chico we're friends now right? So we can be honest with one another.

Chico:  Absolutely.

Simon Cowell:  You doing that ballad is rather like casting Ricky Gervais as Rambo. (Audience laughs, Chico grins. Some audience boos.) In other words You know, you've, you've proven that you are good at one kind of thing... which is you are a fun entertainer. Okay... I don't think that worked. Having said that, I would keep you in the show for next week for you to do what you do best... Having said that, that was verging on a disaster. (Laughter/Boos)

Kate Thornton:  Okay. Sharon, you're mentoring Chico. Did he pull it off for you?

Sharon Osbourne:  He pulled it off for me, definitely. It was very brave of you and I know how hard it was for you not to throw yourself around. I saw you do one twirl only (Laughter) which was good. And I just think... you know what this is? You're making Simon eat his words, so he really wants to be gushing but he holds himself...

Simon Cowell:  No, I'm not!

Sharon Osbourne:  ...back!

Simon Cowell:  I like him Sharon. I like him! I like him.

Sharon Osbourne:  A lot!

Kate Thornton:  Okay?

Simon Cowell:  (To Sharon) Not a lot! But I like him. (Laughter)

Kate Thornton:  Judges... Judges thank you very much. (Turns to Chico) Chico, bit short on time, but what would you like to say back to the judges?

Chico:  Oh, thank you very much for your comments. Er... Simon... I feel like he's an older brother who... (Laughter. Simon’s eyes roll.) ... who actually, who actually is nothing personal what he's saying to me but that really what he's saying to me is for my benefit. And just like an older (sic) brother who would love and respect his older brother I'm gonna try best... my best and I'm gonna keep on coming, and (suddenly shouting) hey, I'm gonna come back to a little...

Chico twirls around and does a scissor splits, accidentally kicking Kate's left foot as he does so!

Kate Thornton:  (Reaching down to her foot) Oww!!

Chico:  (Oblivious, stands with arms aloft) ...Chico time!

Kate Thornton:  That was my foot Chico, thanks very much!

Chico:  (Arm around Kate) Sorry darlin'.

Kate Thornton:  ...Okay, if you want to see Chico back here next week I'll be unconscious! (Chico kisses Kate on the head as she gives out the voting numbers etc.) ... Ladies and gents, it's Chico!

Chico:  (Gives Kate a cheeky Chico kiss on the cheek) I love you. (Chico exits blowing kisses to the audience.)

Kate Thornton:  Ow!
