Shayne scratches his head - perhaps wondering why Sharon isn't flirting with him this week?!!
During the pre-performance videoclip we see a snippet of teenage Shayne performing at a school talent show. As chance would have it he's singing the Boyzone number "I'm Never Gonna Say Goodbye". Boyzone were of course managed by none other than Louis Walsh!
Shayne sings a golden oldie from The Stylistics tonight. 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' is technically quite a difficult number to master, but Shayne has no difficulty on this level.
Where we think he loses a few points this week is in failing to convey the emotion of the song. Shayne did this brilliantly 2 weeks ago singing Daniel Bedingfield's 'If You're Not The One', he has those emotions in him, tonight he just needed to get them out of him!
Simon recognises Shayne's massive potential, but blames the song choice. We disagree, it's a great song and Shayne could have done just a little bit more with it.
Perhaps he was worried in case he got Sharon over-excited again! She's definitely calmer this week. She even refers to him as "a young man"! Of course if recent press reports like this one in The Mirror are true, it could be that Sharon has been asked to tone her comments down a little when it comes to Shayne!
Following something of a trend on tonight's show, Shayne apologises for how he may have come over last week when reacting to the judges' comments.
Simon tells him he needs to hit the bulls eye next week. Shayne promises he will!

Panel-Bites:

Louis Walsh:  (Introduction) Next up we've a young guy from Manchester. I think he's got something different. It's Shayne Ward.

Intro clip...

Shayne:  As a child growing up I was always around music. In school we put on a talent show. Being on stage it was just the greatest feeling ever, because that's exactly what I wanted to do. (Clips of a young Shayne singing on the school stage) I just felt at home.

Louis Walsh:  Raw talent like this doesn't come around very often. But he needs to work a lot harder because the competition is getting tougher.

Shayne:  For the first time last week I was so nervous, and it's finally hitting home that someone has to go every week and that person could be me. Simon, he did say that the song that I was singing... I needed a bit of grit in my voice... Which I kind of disagreed. I'm not going to try and put a different sound to my voice, 'cause that's just not me. But I will fight for my position, because that's exactly what I've got to do. I want to win this competition.

Shayne sings...

Kate Thornton:  Simon, your comments please?

Simon Cowell:  Ah, Shayne it was a lot better than last week. Ahm, but you know I've got to tell you, and this is... you know, I'm gonna give you a compliment... I think you are potentially a great, great artist. I mean seriously good. However, if you put diesel into a Ferrari it doesn't run very well. And I mean that in terms of the songs Louis has chosen for you for the past 2 weeks. Because they're....

Louis Walsh:  (Shouts over) Hey! It's not a song contest!

Simon Cowell:  Louis! Louis!

Louis Walsh:  It's a talent contest!

Simon Cowell:  Louis! Louis!

Sharon Osbourne:  (To Louis) Oh please behave! Louis!... Calm down.

Simon Cowell:  Louis! Louis, you are so prickly, and obnoxious and unpleasant! (Audience cheers, Louis laughs despairingly) You know? I'm trying to help your artist here!

Louis Walsh:  No you're not.

Simon Cowell:  Shut up!

Louis Walsh:  (Yells) It's all about you!! Simon!...

Simon Cowell:  All I'm saying is... Shayne... you know outside of a show like this somebody like you... it's like giving 'Angels' to Robbie Williams, the two go together! Plead with idiot face...

Louis Walsh:  (Laughs and then gets back at Simon) Hey!

Simon Cowell:  ...to go and give you a decent song next week!

Louis Walsh:  Simon!

Simon Cowell:  That's all I'm saying. Plead with him.

Louis Walsh:  Mrs Cowell, shut up and listen to me. I did not pick the song. 'We' picked the song, and he's a 20-year-old guy from Manchester, he's singing The Stylistics. Who else can do that?

Sharon Osbourne:  But that... but excuse me... .that song was all about...

Louis Walsh:  'We' chose the song.

Sharon Osbourne:  ...1973. He wasn't even born!

Louis Walsh:  It's a great song!

Simon Cowell:  Louis...You're wrong, you're wrong! You're wrong, you're wrong!

Louis Walsh:  (Pointing at Simon) No, you're wrong and the public are right.

Simon Cowell:  ...You're wrong, you're wrong!

Louis Walsh:  You are so wrong.

Sharon Osbourne:  Excuse me! Stop now. Stop! Stop!

Kate Thornton:  Thanks, Sharon? Let's hear from you?

Sharon Osbourne:  It's not all about 'us' remember.

Louis Walsh:  I know. Simon thinks it is!

Sharon Osbourne:  Hold on.

Kate Thornton:  Sharon let's hear from you? Thanks.

Simon Cowell:  I beg to differ.

Sharon Osbourne:  All right. Shayne, you know I'm one of your biggest campaigners here. You know, I adore your voice. You've got a great look. And to me you're like a young Justin Timberlake, and I would love to hear you sing something more contemporary. It really... you know, you've done it in the past, and I just wanna hear you do contemporary stuff, with contemporary moves. You're a young man, I want to hear you sing like a young man.

Shayne:  Okay, yeah.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you very much judges! Shayne! (Cheers)

Shayne:  (To Sharon) Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  What would you like to say to the judges?

Shayne:  First, I apologise, last week if I sounded a bit.... on to you...

Simon Cowell:  Don't worry about it.

Shayne:  ...but...

Simon Cowell:  ...it's not a problem.

Shayne:  I just thought you was in the wrong, just at that stage, but thank you very much for all this. I mean your compliments only make me better... (Laughs) ...so... I don't know what to say but thank you.

Simon Cowell:  Shayne... Shayne, let me tell you something. Two weeks ago you hit the bulls eye.

Shayne:  Okay.

Simon Cowell:  You've got to hit the bulls eye next week.

Shayne:  (Nodding) I will. I will hit the bulls eye.

Louis Walsh:  He will.

Sharon Osbourne:  Not with your bloody songs!

Louis Walsh:  (Thumping the table) He will! He will! He will!

Kate Thornton:  Okay! (She puts her arm around Shayne and gives out the voting numbers etc.) ... for now, ladies and gentlemen. It's Shayne! (Shayne gives Kate a kiss on the cheek and exits.)
