Maria Lawson - X Factor Final 9 Show

Song: You're Beautiful  Check out 'You're Beautiful' at Amazon.co.uk (James Blunt  Check out 'James Blunt' at Amazon.co.uk)

Putting it Bluntly, Maria Lawson is beautiful!
Last week Maria gave a 'Piece Of My Heart' and a lorry load of talent. In a way it makes tonight's job a bit more difficult because she's set a very high standard to live up to.
Simon's only concern was whether she could sing contemporary numbers as well as the golden oldies. Maria's performance this evening leaves him in no doubt, she can. She gives James Blunt's love ballad all the expression and sincerity it demands. Putting it 'Bluntly' on The X Factor stage Maria is 'Beautiful'!
Louis Walsh doesn't seem to quite know how to respond to Simon Cowell when he brings up Girls Aloud's reported slating of the X Factor finalists!

Simon is impressed and Maria's quality performance prompts him to dig at Louis about press allegations that Girls Aloud (who Louis manages) have slated the contestants for having no talent!

Louis doesn't really respond, except to look awkward and embarrassed.

Simon lays down an open invitation for Girls Aloud to come onto next week's show and sing live. It will be interesting to see if they take up the offer!

Maria is following her dream, but she feels a bit like she's in one already. She's gobsmacked by the judges' comments and asks Kate to give her a pinch her to make sure it's all real!

Panel-Bites:

Sharon Osbourne:  (Introduction) The very beautiful 'Maria'.

Intro clip...

Maria:  I remember being a little girl watching a music programme and this woman came on that they introduced as Tina Turner. I remember thinking that's exactly what I want to do when I grow up.

Sharon Osbourne:  Maria was stunning last week. Whoa! (Laughing) Where does that voice come from?

Maria:  Last week Simon mentioned that he would like to see me do a more contemporary song.

Sharon Osbourne:  I thought "Yeah, right on", and she can do it. So that's what we've chosen this week. And... well you'll see what she does with it.

Maria:  It is a huge risk that I'm taking. I just hope and pray I can pull it off.

Maria sings...

Kate Thornton:  Louis! Your comments please?

Louis Walsh:  Maria, last week on this show I think you gave by far the best performance. You did a great, great song. I didn't think you could do better. You come back this week, you sing a totally different song, from the charts. You make it your own. You deserve to be in the competition. You deserve a record deal, and you are beautiful. (Audience cheers)

Maria:  (Smiling) Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you Louis. Simon!

Simon Cowell:  Ah, not only do I think it's your best performance to date, I think it's the performance of the night so far. (Cheers) I.. it was really, really... I...I gotta tell you, I absolutely loved it. I actually think you would have a hit record with that. And you know, hearing this, and some of the artists we've heard tonight... I'm gonna ask Louis, 'cause Girls Aloud mentioned in the press this week that there's no talent on this show. Well...

Sharon Osbourne:  (Sharp intake of breath!)

Simon Cowell:  ...here's... here is an invitation... (Sharon stares at a Louis, who is looking rather embarrassed.) ...to Girls Aloud to come and sing live on this show next week.

Sharon Osbourne:  Yes! (Audience laughs and cheers, Maria and Kate are also laughing. Louis raises his hands in mock submission.)

Simon Cowell:  Be my guests!

Sharon Osbourne:  Where did they say that?

Simon Cowell:  It doesn't matter, but they said it. I mean give me a break!

Sharon Osbourne:  Jealous. They're just jealous! Jealous!

Kate Thornton:  Okay, well that will be interesting. Thanks Simon. Er, Sharon, you're Maria's mentor, er, what did you think of her performance tonight?

Sharon Osbourne:  Just effortless. Everything you do is effortless and I... (Maria smiles) ...it just amazes me each week. It's just I want you to kind of like perspire or ... just....(you) do it so naturally you know and it... it just flows from you.

Simon Cowell:  You did great.

Louis Walsh:  Fantastic.

Simon Cowell:  You did great. (Cheers, Maria is grinning and looking very pleasantly surprised)

Kate Thornton:  Maria for the second week running...

Maria:  Oh my god!

Kate Thornton:  ...you're cleaning up from the judges. What would you like to say to them?

Maria:  Wow, pinch me! Let me wake up. I'm just abs... Oh my g... I'm amazed! Each week it's like, 'thank you so much', I can't say thank you enough. It's just been... I'm just havin' such a wonderful time that I can't even explain it... it's been... wonderful.

Kate Thornton:  I mean your only criticism last week from Simon was he wanted you to come back and prove to him that you could be a contemporary artist.

Maria:  (Nods slightly) Yeah.

Kate Thornton:  I think we're all agreed that you did that tonight. Judges?

Louis Walsh:  (Nods)

Sharon Osbourne:  (Claps)

Simon Cowell:  For sure.

Kate Thornton:  Mission accomplished... (Maria laughs, Kate gives out the voting numbers etc.) ...Ladies and gentlemen, she's beautiful! It's Maria. (Maria exits)
