Brenda Edwards closes out her X Factor Final 9 performance on a big note!
Last week Brenda sang Gladys Knight's classic soul ballad 'Midnight Train To Georgia' and received her first unanimous thumbs-up from the panel.
It wasn't her last, because tonight her upbeat, fun and funky rendition of Jocelyn Brown's 1984 hit wows them all again. She even dazzles with her dance moves, taking a leaf out of Chico's book with a little backways shuffle to the beat.
The song is big and lively like her personality. Of course Brenda herself is shrinking, having lost a stone and a half in the run-up to the finals.
Shrinking Brenda is no shrinking Violet though and she closes out in style on a big and powerful note.

Panel-Bites:

Sharon Osbourne:  (Introduction) ...What a great way to start this show, with Brenda...

Intro clip...

Brenda:  Last Saturday was brilliant for me. Simon actually made the comment that I'm like Shirley Valentine. The woman that goes away and transforms herself.

Sharon Osbourne:  She realises that she's been given a huge opportunity and she's not wasting a minute of it.

Brenda:  So far I've lost a stone and a half... I don't want to be the person who's being looked at and being cast aside because of how she looks.

Sharon Osbourne:  In every which way, she is working to win this contest.

Brenda:  At the end of my song tonight I've got to hold a note for eleven seconds! (Laughing) I really don't think my lungs are that big to be able to do it!

Brenda sings...

Kate Thornton:  Simon! Your comments please?

Simon Cowell:  I... I am so depressed because your artists are supposed to screw up at this point. (Sharon and Louis laugh) It, for me it was your best performance by a mile! (Cheers)

Brenda:  Thank you Simon.

Simon Cowell:  Seriously, I mean the song is... I mean it's just an amazing pop record that. You sang it brilliantly, and now I'm feeling really depressed. (Brenda laughs, as does the audience)

Kate Thornton:  Thank you very much Simon. Louis?

Louis Walsh:  Brenda that was electric. It was energetic. You looked like you were having a great time. Fan-tastic.

Brenda:  Thank you. (Audience cheers)

Kate Thornton:  Sharon, you're Brenda's mentor. How did she do for you?

Sharon Osbourne:  Ah, Brenda, when you came out and first started to sing I got goose bumps. Hairs on my neck standing up. Just every week...

Simon Cowell:  And on your chest.

Sharon Osbourne:  (To Simon) Would you behave! I've plucked those out. Would you behave! Please, I am trying to judge!

Simon Cowell:  Sorry.

Sharon Osbourne:  ...as I am the expert judge! (Simon turns away, grinning)

Louis Walsh:  (Gestures to egg-on the audience) Yes, yes! (Big audience cheers for 'expert' Sharon. Brenda applauds her.)

Sharon Osbourne:  (To Simon) Like I say... and the nation voted me in!

Simon Cowell:  Allegedly.

Sharon Osbourne:  No, not allegedly.

Simon Cowell:  Allegedly.

Sharon Osbourne:  (To Brenda) Erm, just every week I see you growing as an artist an' it's amazing, an' I'm so happy for you Brenda.

Brenda:  Thank you.

Sharon Osbourne:  I am so happy.

Louis Walsh:  Yeah. And you know what Kate? I think she could have a big hit record with this song. Because nobody else has done it like Jocelyn Brown. Fantastic.

Brenda:  (Smiling broadly) Thank you. (Big cheers)

Kate Thornton:  Thank you very much judges.

Brenda:  (Gathering herself) Whoo!

Kate Thornton:  Brenda, you're looking a little bit tearful there.

Brenda:  Oh, I've been so nervous all week 'cause it's such a big song and I've never heard somebody else sing it either. So I've been like... "Please! Please!" ...I mean Mark gave me this second to hold, I'm like "Please! Please! Lungs open up and help me." So, gosh, thanks very much judges for your comments. Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. (Loud applause)

Kate Thornton:  Well, congratulations Brenda. Those are phenomenal comments. (To camera) So do you agree? Was that Brenda at her best? Does that bag your vote? (Kate gives out the voting numbers etc...) ...(Laughing at Brenda mouthing "Vote Brenda") That laugh is so catching!

Brenda:  (Laughing) I'm sorry!

Kate Thornton:  Ladies and gentlemen, she was fantastic! It's Brenda!

Brenda:  Thank you Kate. (Kisses Kate on the cheek and exits).
