Chenai Bows Out Of The X Factor With Grace
Chenai Zinyuku leaves The X Factor after delivering one of her best performances in the competition.
Tonghts bottom 3 are Chenai, Chico and Nicholas. After a tense wait Kate announces that Chico is safe tonight. This means that tonight's the bottom 2 are both from Louis' 16-24 category. Chenai faces off against soulster Nicholas Dorsett.
Before they sing for their second time tonight Kate gets a few words from Simon, who announces "Okay, Nicholas, Chenai. Again I give you my word. It is a clean sheet. I'm going to pretend that I haven't seen both performances and I will keep the person who deserves to stay here based on their performance, passion and desire to win."
Considering the tension in the studio, the reprise performances from Nicholas and Chenai are both good, and if anything slightly better than their original ones. It is clear that the judges' decisions tonight won't be easy ones.
Sharon pauses before declaring that Nicholas should go home. Next it's Simon's turn. He pontificates, "If I'm being honest, I think Chenai you sang better tonight, but Nicholas I think you have better prospects overall." He pauses and dithers a little before naming Chenai as the act he is sending home. It seems that Simon has broken his word to the two youngsters, and has decided not to base his decision on who he believes performed the best!
This leaves a cliff-hanger of a decision for Louis. It isn't the first time he's had to choose between 2 of his own acts. Last year it happened twice, and his agony in choosing G4 over Voices With Soul probably still lingers with him to this day! Louis is much more acceptant of his duty this time around. When he names Chenai as the act to go home she reacts well. She sends a nod and a smile over to Louis and shares a warm hug with Nicholas. "I get to go home!" she cries excitedly.
When Kate asks her if she's okay Chenai cries for real. She is treated to the VT of her best bits to remind her just how far she has come in this contest. Though tearful, Chenai is gracious and grateful when Kate asks if she'd like to say a few words to Louis, "...thanks for bringing me this far and do you know what, thanks to everybody that kept me in for the 4 weeks I did" and she emphasised to Kate that she has no regrets about coming back and having her second shot at X Factor fame.
With her arm around Chenai and looking straight into her eyes, auntie Katie tells her "I think I speak for us all when I say that you've been a much valued and much loved contestant." Chenai smiles as she gets a big cheer from the audience!
Chenai has had a fantastic second run in the contest. At 19, she's still very young, and by her own admission is still improving. Her X Factor experience has given her bags of exposure and hopefully she'll use that in a positive way, keep on improving and not give up on her dream. She has the talent, she just needs time. We believe Chenai's time will come and we wish her all the best as she works her way towards fulfilling her singing ambition.
