Journey South - X Factor Final 10 Show

Journey South
Song: Angel Of Harlem  Check out 'Angel Of Harlem' at Amazon.co.uk (U2  Check out 'U2' at Amazon.co.uk)

Journey South's enjoyment shines through and they seem to be increasingly relaxed on stage.
Simon goes off the beaten track with his choice for Journey South tonight, U2's Angel of Harlem is a classic rock number but it won't be instantly recognised by all the viewers.
However Carl and Andy win the audience over immediately with a passion and a positivity that is irresistible. The Pemberton brothers really seem to be having a great time up there and it's infectious.
Yes there are a few slightly rough vocal moments but for a song like this it's de rigeur. A too perfect vocal would detract from the authentic rock feel.
Sharon and Simon are both feeling the good vibes, however Louis, despite 'loving' Journey South says he isnt crazy about the song! When Carl says he thinks the song is "what Journey South are all about" Louis has a bit of a niggle, saying "I don't see you making a rock album".
The boys seem shocked with Louis. Andy pulls a bemused face, but then breaks into a big smile and tells Louis "As long as we make any album I'll be happy"!

In a way Andy's answer is really what the boys are all about, enjoying the moment, enjoying the performance and if things go their way, enjoying the album!

Panel-Bites:

Simon Cowell:  (Introduction) ...I would like to introduce my second and only group Journey South

Intro clip...

Carl:  The reality of how far we've actually come has just started sinking in for both of us.

Andy:  You know, when we were sort of 10 year old we talked about it all the time and we've gone from just going up and down playing smoky pubs where you can hardly breathe let alone sing, to this.

Carl:  It's absolutely mad to think that... y'know a few months ago I was a plumber, he was an electrician. We've gone from just our regular lives to...

Andy:  Almost celebrities... I don't know, but we're northerners, we keep our feet firmly on the ground. We know what we want.

Simon Cowell:  It's a massive, massive life changing experience for these 2 guys. Now they've got to focus and they've got to start believing in themselves. The song I chose for them this week is a massive challenge, but if they pull this off it's going to be fantastic.

Andy:  Being on stage with my brother is just the best thing in the world. We're going to go out there and we're going to try and nail it.

Journey South sing...

Kate Thornton:  Louis!

Louis Walsh:  Guys, you know I'm a big, big supporter of Journey South. I think you're great, I think you're going to have a career in music. I wasn't crazy about the song. I don't really think it suited yee. (Boos)

Carl:  Really?

Andy:  (Shocked) What!

Louis Walsh:  Honestly. But I love Journey South and by the way Simon Andy's on the left and Carl is on the right.

Andy:  He knows our names, don't you Simon?

Kate Thornton:  Okay, thank you Louis, ehm, Sharon?

Sharon Osbourne:  Well, I have to disagree Louis, I... (Cheers) I tell you... I didn't like the song before you sang it, now I love the song.

Journey South: Brilliant.

Sharon Osbourne:  Really. And Andy, you really made it your own. A great vocal performance from both of you, but Andy you were really getting into it... But really well done....

Andy:  Thank you.

Sharon Osbourne:  ...great performance.

Louis Walsh:  I prefer... I thought...I just thought you were better last week with Desperado. I love... I think you've got a great talent. I think you're going to be very successful. I just wasn't crazy about the song, that's all.

Journey South: That's fair enough.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you. Simon!

Simon Cowell:  Louis you do know it's an Irish song?

Louis Walsh:  By an Irish band yeah, of course yeah!

Simon Cowell:  Just thought I'd mention that.

Louis Walsh:  They had a big hit with it.

Simon Cowell:  Ehm, I think tonight has made me realise that I think we have more talent in this competition than I've ever seen in any other competition. Seriously and... (Cheers) ...It's been a really, really, really great night and guys you know it was a risky thing to do, to take on a U2 song. You had fun, you're great entertainers, you give it a 110 per cent. I can remember sitting with you 6 months ago when you were really, really down, wondering if you could do anything like this with your careers...And just to see you up, looking great, sounding great, enjoying yourselves is what it's all about. Terrific. Really, really good.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you Simon. (Applause)

Kate Thornton:  (To Journey South) Boys, your time to talk back. What would you like to say?

Carl:  Well I'd just like to say Louis, you know, we've done that song and it's one of the songs from the biggest band in the world.

Louis Walsh:  (With fixed smile) Absolutely yeah, a rock band.

Carl:  Yeah, I just felt it was a great song and I felt it was what Journey South are about. So, I dunno, I mean...

Louis Walsh:  (Shaking his head) I don't see you making a rock album.I really don't see you making a rock... I think you're going to be really successful.

Simon Cowell:  Can I interrupt?

Louis Walsh:  I'm talking to the boys.

Andy:  As long as we make any album I'll be happy. (Laughter and applause)

Kate Thornton:  So are you going to give the boys their dream? Are you going to help them on their way to a musical career? (Kate gives out the voting numbers etc...) Ladies and gentlemen. It's Journey South!
