Nicholas Dorsett - X Factor Final 12 Show

Song: On The Wings Of Love  Check out 'On The Wings Of Love' at Amazon.co.uk (Jeffrey Osborne  Check out 'Jeffrey Osborne' at Amazon.co.uk)

Nicholas Dorsett indulges in a magical bit of vocal freestyle as he closes out on Jeffrey Osborne's hit "On The Wings Of Love".
Nicholas looks very relaxed up on stage as he makes his first appearance in The X Factor finals. His style is casual and immaculate and his sounds are soothing. It's a nice soulful rendition of Jeffrey Osborne's 1984 hit, marred momentarily by a single strained note.
Nicholas more than makes up for this though by closing the number with some impressive vocal freestyling.

Neither Simon nor Sharon pick up on Nicholas's one dodgy note, but they do have a good old nit-pick with Louis over the song choice. To his credit, Nicholas defends Louis, and makes it clear that he was very happy with the song choice.

Simon and Sharon both criticise Louis' song choice for Nicholas Dorsett, although they both seem to think he did a great job on stage tonight.

Nicholas also tells the panel that he'd rather be judged on the merits of his vocal performance, so Kate sends him off the stage on a high when she reminds him that both Simon and Sharon are happy with his vocal tonight.

Panel-Bites:

Louis Walsh:  (Introduction) Next we've got somebody really cool. A cool dude. He's 17 and he's very soulful. His name is Nicholas.

Intro clip...

Nicholas:  What this means to me at the moment is... is everything... is everything. I know a lot of people say that, but really it does mean everything to me. In a way it's like the hard work's paid off and finally you're gettin' somewhere.

Louis Walsh:  Nicholas has got a raw talent. He's got a great voice, he's very versatile. He can sing anything. I think this guy could be world class.

Nicholas:  I can't wait to get out there and perform for the people. For Louis, for my family, for myself. Yeah, I just can't wait, I'm very, very excited.

Nicholas sings...

Kate Thornton:  Simon?

Simon Cowell:  Nicholas, you are very, very, very good potentially, and without sounding boring, because I know we're mentioning songs a lot tonight, but this is important... is that you... how old are you? 17 years old?

Nicholas:  18.

Simon Cowell:  18?

Nicholas:  Yeah.

Simon Cowell:  Oh, sorry. Okay, ahm, you've been made to sound incredibly old fashioned...

Nicholas:  Yeah?

Simon Cowell:  Thank god you did that last part of the song yourself. But let me give you one really good bit of advice.

Nicholas:  Yeah?

Simon Cowell:  Don't let Louis choose your songs. (Laughter)

Nicholas:  We worked, we worked together...

Simon Cowell:  You know more than he does!

Nicholas:  Yeah?

Louis Walsh:  Simon... Simon, you made a mistake with the Conway's I did not make a mistake with the song.

Simon Cowell:  I think you did.

Louis Walsh:  We talked about the song, both of us...

Simon Cowell:  No, you told him...

Louis Walsh:  ...agreed with the song.

Sharon Osbourne:  Louis. Louis.

Louis Walsh:  It's a soul classic.

Simon Cowell:  You told him.

Sharon Osbourne:  The song's too old.

Simon Cowell:  The song's too old.

Louis Walsh:  I disagree.

Sharon Osbourne:  Too old.

Louis Walsh:  No! (Applause) The thing is... no, no. Nicholas made the song his own. It's a fantastic song.

Sharon Osbourne:  This is my time to speak!

Louis Walsh:  Well it's my...

Sharon Osbourne:  (Shouting) Do you mind?

Louis Walsh:  It's my artist! So, I believe in him!

Sharon Osbourne:  You can wait till the end. (To Simon) Look at this!

Louis Walsh:  I... I believe in him. I believe you're wrong. The public will decide. I think he's great.

Sharon Osbourne:  Pushy!...

Kate Thornton:  Okay, Sharon?

Sharon Osbourne:  ...Pushy! Pushy!

Kate Thornton:  Let's hear what you thought of Nicholas?

Sharon Osbourne:  God! Is he ever pushy or what tonight?

Louis Walsh:  'Passionate' is the word.

Sharon Osbourne:  Pushy.

Louis Walsh:  Passionate.

Sharon Osbourne:  Pushy.

Simon Cowell:  Yeah, you've changed Louis. (Laughter)

Sharon Osbourne:  Yes, very much. Nicholas, I think you have an amazing voice.

Nicholas:  Thank you.

Sharon Osbourne:  Your voice is one... (Applause) ... of a seasoned performer. I cannot believe that you're only 18. You have a brilliant voice for an 18-year-old, but I really truly feel that that song did not do you justice, and I think your mentor, 'pushy' Walsh over here... okay... needs to give you something that is edgy and something that is really you...

Simon Cowell:  Absolutely.

Sharon Osbourne:  ...That really shows you off, because I don't think that that did you justice.

Simon Cowell:  We like Nicholas.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you very much.

Sharon Osbourne:  You were very good.

Kate Thornton:  Thank you very much judges, thank you. (Applause) (Kate walks over to greet Nicholas) (Off mike) You all right?

Nicholas:  (Quietly) Yeah, I'm all right. I'm all right.

Kate Thornton:  So? Had a chance to get your head around that?

Nicholas:  Yeah, yeah.

Kate Thornton:  Anything you'd like to say Nicholas?

Nicholas:  Well uhm, I'd just like to say that it weren't Louis pushing me to pick the song. We worked together on the song, he was there for me, constantly texting and ringing and emailing me... and ehm, I was very happy with the song. I also feel like I should more be judged on just my vocals and not the type of song. If I... (Applause) If I sang it good then... (Nicholas drowned out by audience)

Kate Thornton:  Well I think that both Simon and Sharon are in agreement that you gave a great vocal tonight.

Louis Walsh:  Fantastic.

Sharon Osbourne:  Great vocal

Kate Thornton:  Yeah, great vocals.

Nicholas:  Thank you.

Kate Thornton:  Well, good comments. Nicholas well done...

Nicholas:  Thank you very much.

Kate Thornton:  ...Let's hear it for him, it's Nicholas.
