Louis Walsh: (Introduction) Okay, the next guy up is the most nervous guy in this whole venue tonight. He's absolutely shakin' next door. He's from Northern Ireland, I think he's great, his name is Phillip.
Intro clip... Phillip: I'm proud of myself, knowing that I've got this far. I didn't really expect to get this far in the show. To be truthful, I didn't... you know out of so many people I'm one of the few that's left.
Louis Walsh: Phillip has real potential. He's different from anybody else in this competition. He's got a different kind of voice. I think Phillip could sell an awful lot of records.
Phillip: I don't want to let Louis Walsh down, you know. He's given me such, you know, a huge opportunity to sort of make something of myself. So, I've er, got another step closer to following my dream, y'know.
Phillip sings...
Kate Thornton: Sharon! Your comments please?
Sharon Osbourne: Phillip, what... a little dark horse you are. Amazing, you've... from yesterday and today it's like a whole different person. When I saw you at sound check I... I thought "oh he's okay, he's alright", but you are more than that tonight. You've come into your own.
Phillip: Thanks Sharon. (Cheers and Applause) Thank you very much.
Kate Thornton: Simon?
Simon Cowell: You know, it was okay. I mean Louis had a... he had a lot of people to choose from. Ahm, for me it was rather like somebody leaving a boy band, who wasn't very good, and doing their first single, (Boos from the audience) which wasn't very good. Ahm, you know, I... I'm just distinctly unexcited.(Phillip nods and smiles, Simon pulls his unexcited face as the audience continue to boo him.)
Kate Thornton: Louis? You're Phillip's mentor.
Louis Walsh: Yes. Phillip doesn't have the confidence or the experience of most of the other acts up here tonight, but he has the talent and it's all there, and if we give him a chance I know we've got something very special here. And the fact that Simon is unimpressed I think it's a good sign Phillip (Audience laugh, Sharon and Simon smile, so does Phillip.) I really, really do. (Applause) And you know what? I hope everybody in Northern Ireland lifts their phones and votes for Phillip.
Phillip: Thank you Louis.
Kate Thornton: Okay judges, thank you very much. (She walks over to Phillip, centre stage) (Off mike) Are you all right?
Phillip: Yeah! Yeah.
Kate Thornton: Okay, well you've... you've heard a variety of comments there Phillip.
Phillip: Yeah, yeah.
Kate Thornton: Shall we ah... shall we talk about Simon's.
Phillip: Ah, well you know, Simon's... Simon's the man, he sort of knows his stuff... and er...
Kate Thornton: Well right now you're the man on stage, so let's hear what you've got to say.
Phillip: (Looking at the judges) You know, I want to impress you... you know, I want everyone to sort of... I want like the chances to show you how I can perform... and sing. (Cheers)
Kate Thornton: 'Cause Sharon says you're a dark horse.
Phillip: (Smiles) Well, I don't know. Er... I need to see myself back see... (Laughs) It was just the whole buzz and excitement of the whole night, it's awesome. (Shaking his head) Just...
Kate Thornton: And I know you've been incredibly...
Louis Walsh: (Shouts over) Kate!...
Kate Thornton: ...(Turns to the judges) Yes Louis?
Louis Walsh: Kate, he doesn't have the experience... yet, but...
Kate Thornton: (Turns to Phillip) I know it... Also, how nerve-wracking this is and... and you've been very nervous back-stage haven't you Phillip?
Phillip: Yeah. Yep. Had a...
Kate Thornton: ...But did you enjoy it tonight? Did you feel that you belonged here?
Phillip: ...fantastic night, and it's been such a buzz. It's been awesome. (Cheers) And thanks for...(drowned out by applause)
Kate Thornton: Okay, well Phillip you did incredibly well. Let's hear it for Phillip!
