Will Michelle's Hero Save Her This Time?

Michelle is back to follow her dream, and her big smile shows she is well over last year's disappointment.
Pretty 20-year-old Michelle Foster bravely returns for a second bite of The X Factor cherry. 'Brave' because last year her audition in front of Louis, Sharon and Simon left her inconsolable and in bucket loads of tears.
The petite single mum seems to have put the rejection behind her, she tells Kate Thornton "I felt like it was the end of the world but it didn't stop me, I'm back again this year."
She has a bubbly exchange as she enters the audition room. The judges remember her well and seem pleased to see her again. She jokes about the tissues she's brought with her, and Simon jokes back to thank her for making "the entire country hate my guts last year".
Today she's singing Mariah Carey's inspirational anthem "Hero". The performance is good, and although not flawless it is definitely an improvement on last year's borderline rendition of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You".

Michelle smiles nervously as she awaits the judges verdict...

  • After a long pause Sharon echoes the 'Yes' she gave Michelle last year.
  • Louis says he doesn't feel Michelle has improved enough, and echoes last year's 'No'.
  • The casting vote is with Simon who once again sets Michelle's tears flowing... only this time they are tears of joy! He puts her through to the next round.
All the judges seem genuinely happy and laugh with Michelle over the fact that she's crying again. Her gutsy determination has paid off and she has indeed found the hero that lies within her!

Panel-Bites:

Michelle chats with Kate before her audition...

Kate Thornton:  (Reminiscing) You went into that room full of confidence, and then what happened?

Michelle:  I begged, I cried, I broke down. I felt like it was the end of the world but it didn't stop me, I'm back again this year.

Michelle's auditon...

Simon Cowell:  (As Michelle enters the room) Uh-ohh!

Michelle:  (Screams) Hi!

Simon Cowell:  Uh-ohh! (Michelle laughs)

Sharon Osbourne:  Oh! Michelle!

Michelle:  One minute, I've brought my tissues.

Simon Cowell:  Yeah I was gonna say "handkerchieves"...

Sharon Osbourne:  Oh no!

Louis Walsh:  No crying.

Simon Cowell:  ..."handkerchieves out"!

Michelle:  (Laughs) I've come prepared. I've actually put it right there.

Simon Cowell:  Handkerchieves out! Michelle's back!... Well Michelle, thank you for making the entire country hate my guts last year.

Michelle:  (Laughs) I'm so sorry, I can't help it. I always cry.

Louis Walsh:  Why have you come back?

Michelle:  This is my dream and I'm going to keep trying.

Simon Cowell:  All right. Off you go.

Michelle sings...

Simon Cowell:  Thank you. Okay Michelle... Sharon? Yes or no?

Sharon Osbourne:  (Long pause) Yes.

Michelle:  Thank you.

Simon Cowell:  Louis?

Louis Walsh:  (Shaking his head) You haven't improved that much from last year Michelle. I don't think you've improved enough.

Michelle:  Okay.

Louis Walsh:  It's a 'No'.

Michelle:  Okay.

Simon Cowell:  Michelle...

Michelle:  Yes?

Simon Cowell:  ...We're gonna give you a second chance... You're through to the next round.

Michelle:  (Filling up) Thank you! Thank you. (Collects her tissues) Thank you so much... I'm still crying. If I don't get through I'm crying, if I get through I'm crying. I'm sorry. (Sharon laughs genially)

Kate waits for Michelle outside the audition room...

Michelle:  (Bursting into tears) I got through!

Kate Thornton:  (Punches the air) Yeah!

Michelle gets a hug off Kate, and then a few more from her friends.
