Rough Diamond And A Little Gem

Sharon feels like she's watching "a scene from a movie" as Cadice sings Whitney's song from "The Bodyguard".
It's the week before her 20th birthday when Cadice enters the audition space with her gorgeous little daughter Kashika in hand. For a moment the panel aren't quite sure who's going to do the singing. If they are hoping Kashika might belt out a few bars of "Chick, chick, chick, chick chicken!", today is not their clucky day!
Uncle Simon invites Kashika to sit in on the the panel as an honourary judge for Cadice's audition. Kashika watches intently as her mum sings the words "I will always love you". It's a lovely moment, made all the more so by the quality of Cadice's vocal.
Cute little Kashika sits on Simon Cowell's knee as she watches her mummy sing.
Although her voice is untrained and a bit rough around the edges it has a seemingly effortless power and a nice, very natural vibrato. Sharon describes Cadice as a rough diamond, and Simon agrees, although puzzlingly he later says he's unsure of whether Cadice has a great voice.
Judge Kashika is just as confusing. She likes the voice but when Simon asks if Cadice should go through it sounds like she says 'No'... although she is very quiet so it might just as easily have been 'goo-goo'! Anyway goo-goo or no, Kashika is outvoted by the 3 regular judges and her mummy will 'go-go' to Boot Camp!

Panel-Bites:

Before her audition Cadice enters the pod with little Kashika...

Cadice:  This is my dream to sing. I've been wanting to sing since I was four years old. But I think it's time for me to put aside all the other stuff that I've got in life and just focus on doing this for my daughter, 'cause really and truly that's all I'm doing it for... is my daughter.

She enters the audition room holding hands with Kashika ...

Sharon Osbourne:  Hello.

Simon Cowell:  Hello!

Cadice:  Hi.

Simon Cowell:  (Laughing) Come in! How are you?

Cadice:  Fine.

Simon Cowell:  (To Sharon) It's another duo.

Louis Walsh:  It's a duo!

Sharon Osbourne:  Who's gonna sing. Which one?

Cadice:  (Smiling) Me.

Simon Cowell:  (To Kashika, who has her dummy in her mouth) Right, do you want to come and judge your mum?

Cadice:  (To Kashika, pointing at the panel) Do you want to go up there?

Kashika:  Yeah.

Simon Cowell:  You wanna come up here? C'mon? Come up here. You can be a judge baby.

Kashika runs over to Simon and he lifts her onto his lap.

Simon Cowell:  Right, we've now got a fourth judge! (He smiles)

Cadice:  (Grins)

Simon Cowell:  Now this isn't going to put you off?

Cadice:  No.

Simon Cowell:  ...Daughter here.

Cadice:  (Shakes her head)

Simon Cowell:  Okay. (To Kashika) You watching?

Cadice sings...

Simon Cowell:  (Calling a halt) Okay.

Sharon Osbourne:  How old are you?

Cadice:  I'm gonna be 20 next week.

Simon Cowell:  Really!

Cadice:  Yeah.

Sharon Osbourne:  You have a great voice.

Cadice:  Thank you.

Louis Walsh:  You have the vocal, I don't know about anything else.

Sharon Osbourne:  ...Sort of like a rough diamond.

Simon Cowell:  Exactly right

Sharon Osbourne:  (Struggling for the words) Eh...eh...

Simon Cowell:  Exactly right.

Sharon Osbourne:  I've never seen anything like it actually, 'cause you just stand there and this amazing voice comes out.

Simon Cowell:  (To Kashika, taking out her dummy) Is your mum a good singer?

Kashika:  Yeah...

Simon Cowell:  Yes? Yeah, shall we put her through?

Kashika:  (Sounds like) No.

Simon Cowell:  You've just said 'No'!

Sharon, Louis and Cadice all laugh.

Simon Cowell:  There's a vote of confidence. Er... Louis, 'Yes' or 'No'?

Louis Walsh:  Yes!

Cadice:  (Smiling)Thank you.

Simon Cowell:  Sharon?

Sharon Osbourne:  Yes... Absolutely yes!

Cadice:  Thank you.

Simon Cowell:  You're through to the next round.

Cadice:  Thank you.

Simon sets Kashika down and she runs to her mummy.

Sharon Osbourne:  Bye bye! (Waves)

Simon Cowell:  Bye sweetheart! (Waves)

Kashika turns and waves very cutely to the panel.

Sharon Osbourne:  See you soon!

Louis Walsh:  Gorgeous baby.

Sharon Osbourne:  Gorgeous baby.

Simon Cowell:  Yeah, she's sweet isn't she?

Sharon Osbourne:  Oh, she's got an amazing voice.

Louis Walsh:  Her clothes, everything, the whole...

Sharon Osbourne:  No, do you know what it was like? It was like a scene from a movie where somebody comes in and then they look all down and out, and suddenly this amazing voice comes out of nowhere.

Simon Cowell:  You know I... I couldn't tell if it was a good voice or not.

Sharon Osbourne:  I think she's got a great voice.

Simon Cowell:  I really couldn't.

Cadice:  (Outside) I'm doing it all for my baby. (Smiles)

The final shot is of Kashika waving to the camera, then happily skipping away holding onto mummy's hand.
