The White Star boys just want a chance... and they get it!
Glasgow 20 year-olds John Kerr, Russell Graham and Alan Fraser make up Whitestar. It's clear even before they audition that the boys have a confidence and a hunger about them.
When the boys sing Take That's "Back For Good" for the panel Alan takes lead vocal with Russell and John providing some pleasing harmonies. Alan hits some high notes, especially with Simon who singles him out as having a nice voice.
Whitestar have a good look about them but Simon seems concerned that they may be more nineties than noughties.

The boys are lost on Sharon though, she simply declares "it's not my thing" and gives them a 'No'.

Whitestar impress Louis enough to get his 'Yes', so Simon is left with the casting vote.

The boys' hunger really surfaces as they await Simon's drawn-out verdict. All they want is another chance, and when they get it via Simon's 'Yes' they celebrate with 'leaps' and 'bounds' that would give G4 a run for their money!

The positive result gives Alan one more reason to celebrate when the audition is transmitted on September 17, his 21st birthday!

Update

On 23rd September The Daily Record reports that the Whitestar boys' nearly made the big time last year as boy band 'Braveheart'.

The report suggests they were offered a £2million contract by none other than Simon Cowell! Amazingly they never met Simon in person, but if things had gone well they could have been Scotland's answer to Westlife!

Panel-Bites:

Before Whitestar's audition...

Whitestar: (In unison) We're 'Whitestar' and we've got The X Factor!

Alan:  We want this so badly.

John:  It means everything to us.

Alan:  Since I've been that high this is just all I've ever wanted. I can't imagine doing anything else.

Whitestar's audition...

Whitestar sing...

Louis Walsh:  Simon?

Simon Cowell:  You've got quite a good voice. The problem I have at the moment is this looks to me like 10 years ago. (The boys nod)

Louis Walsh:  I think the 2 boys on the right have something.

Russell:  Let's prove to you, come on... give us... get us through and we'll show you.

Sharon Osbourne:  If you're asking me...

Simon Cowell:  I am asking you. Sharon 'Yes' or 'No'?

Sharon Osbourne:  ...it's a 'No'. It's not my thing. No.

Russell:  (Groans) Sharon!

Louis Walsh:  I'm gonna say 'Yes'!

Alan:  We just want a chance.

John:  Just a chance.

Russell:  We'll show yer.

Simon Cowell:  (Pretending he's not impressed) I'm sorry guys...

Russell:  Pleeeeez... please.

Simon Cowell:  ...but I am going to give you one more chance.

Russell:  (Jumps up and down) Whaaa!

Outside after their audition the boys go ballistic. Russell picks Kate up and swings her around.

Russell:  (To camera) Thank you! Whoo!
