Andy and Carl, the 2 brother's forming "Journey South" make it through to boot camp but are advised by Sharon and Simon to "Lighten Up!"
"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is a poignant song choice for vocal duet Journey South. Brothers Andy and Carl Pemberton from Middlesbrough have spent the last 10 years looking for a break in the music industry and they are hoping that The X Factor might just be it.
Their vocal arrangement, a mixture of alternate solos and 2 part harmonies, works for the panel.
Simon likes both voices but singles out Carl's slightly gravelly voice as being the better of the two. Louis singles out Carl's looks, telling him he looks like a footballer.
On the downside, Simon and Sharon both tell the boys to lighten up a little when they sing. They're right, the brothers looked very intense and hardly smiled during their performance. Audition nerves might have had something to do with that, because the moment the lads learn they are through to Boot Camp they can't seem to stop smiling!

Panel-Bites:

Pre-audition...

Carl:  We just really need the chance I think.

Andy:  Yeah, it's getting the right break isn't it? That's the main thing, just get that break which... this could be the break.

Journey South's audition...

Boys sing...

Simon Cowell:  Okay... What's your name?

Carl:  Carl.

Simon Cowell:  I really like your voice Carl.

Carl:  Thank you.

Simon Cowell:  Really... and I'm not saying I don't like yours (Andy's), but for me you (Carl) are a much, much stronger singer. (Carl smiles) But you know... what you've got to be careful about guys is this... Is that it is supposed to beeee... 'fun'. You know, and there's a real intensity... the two of you, which is a bit off putting and you've just got to lighten up a bit.

Louis Walsh:  Carl's got a good image. You're good, you look like a footballer.

Carl:  (Surprised laugh) Gee.

Louis Walsh:  But erm, I think there's something good here.

Sharon Osbourne:  Yeah I... I really like what you do but just ...

Simon Cowell:  You really want this don't you?

Sharon Osbourne:  ...Lighten up!

Carl:  Oh big time.

Andy:  We really, really do want it.

Simon Cowell:  Okay, moment of truth. Sharon yes or no?

Sharon Osbourne:  (Pauses) ...Yes.

Simon Cowell:  Louis?

Louis Walsh:  (After another pause...) Yes.

Simon Cowell:  Guys, you're through to the next round... I think you did good. ( The brothers embrace)
