Philip McGee from Larne treats The X Factor panel to a bit of good old country music.
21-year-old student Philip McGee from Larne chooses a good "old country song" as his audition piece. He sings the Patsy Cline favourite really well, even injecting a bit of Cline-like croakiness now and then.
Simon and Louis seem impressed, especially Louis whose eyes spark as he mouths those 3 magic letters "M.O.R." That's 'Middle of the Road' for the uninitiated, and it seems to be where Louis visualises Philip's musical future.
It's not all plain sailing for Philip though, Sharon just "doesn't get it", although she seems happy for Philip as she confirms he is through anyway.
Philip seems slightly surprised to make Boot Camp, even though he has won a TV singing contest already this year! Yes, back in March he was the overall winner of the Elvis Competition on UTV's "The Kelly Show", hosted by Gerry Kelly.

Panel-Bites:

Sharon Osbourne:  What are you gonna sing for us today?

Philip:  I'm going to sing an old country song called 'Your Cheatin' Heart'

Philip sings...

Simon Cowell:  Thank you. Thank you.

Sharon Osbourne:  Simon?

Simon Cowell:  Great. (Nods) I thought you were really good.

Philip:  Thank you.

Simon Cowell:  Different... liked the choice of song... Very good.

Sharon Osbourne:  Louis?

Simon Cowell:  Very good.

Louis Walsh:  I agree with Simon. (Philip smiles) I'm pleasantly surprised.

Simon Cowell:  100 per cent 'Yes'.

Sharon Osbourne:  Louis?

Louis Walsh:  100 per cent 'Yes'.

Sharon Osbourne:  (Shakes her head and gasps into muted laughter) It's a 'No' from me. (Laughs aloud)

Simon Cowell:  Seriously?

Sharon Osbourne:  Yes!

Simon Cowell:  Why?

Sharon Osbourne:  (Shaking her head, smiling) I didn't get it.

Louis Walsh:  Oh I did.

Sharon Osbourne:  ...Didn't get it.

Louis Walsh:  M. O. R. (Middle Of The Road) ...Oh yes.

Simon Cowell:  I did.

Sharon Osbourne:  But you don't... you're in anyway. Philip.

Louis Walsh:  I think you're good.

Philip:  Thank you.

Louis Walsh:  Yeah.

Philip:  (Leaving) Thanks very much.

Simon Cowell:  Great.

Sharon Osbourne:  Bye.

In the pod...

Philip:  (A bit shell shocked) I can't believe...I can't believe I'm through.

Louis chats with Simon and Sharon during a break from auditions...

Louis Walsh:  If you're looking for a singer to make a written album with, he's your guy.

Simon Cowell:  You reckon?

Louis Walsh:  Absolutely! Absolutely Simon. I think he's a find. I hope he's not in your category.
