| G4 - The X Factor (Final 3 Show) |
| Earlier this week Louis arranges for the boys to pay a visit to Guy's hospital in London to meet 3 of their biggest fans, Kerry, Cherise and Vicky. |
| The lads bring some presents with them, but their biggest gift is undoubtedly an impromptu a capella performance of The Circle Of Life, the Lion King song which they sang in the final 6 show. |
| Mike sums up the feeling of the band "We've looked back on our performances last week, and we we weren't completely happy with them. After today it puts it all into context and as long as we do our best, and we make people happy, that's all that matters to us." |
| Last week Steve visited a primary school. This week the G4 guys visit Guy's hospital? This all reminds me of something... no but Tony Blair can't sing can he? |
Song number one for G4 tonight is the first bit of Xmas factor we've had this year. It's the Christmas Carol "Oh Holy Night" (incidentally this was also sung by Michelle McManus in the final stages of Pop Idol 2). Jonathan Ansell sings out the first line of the song solo before being accompanied by Matt, Ben and Mike as the arrangement switches to ensemble. |
| It's a nice melodic arrangement, and there are snowflakes falling from the studio sky, but at this stage of the competition it's surprising that the lads haven't chosen more of a 'knock your socks off' number. |
| Perhaps they don't want to steal the thunder of their second number of the night. Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. G4 sang this during their initial audition, so we've got half an incling of what to expect. This time they do it a little differently though! |
| They begin in the diamond formation made famous in the Queen video. Jonathan sings the Freddie Mercury part with gusto. The most striking difference between G4's version and Queen's is Jonathan's voice which is an octave or two higher than Freddie Mercury's. |
| It's an interesting sound, though it will be difficult for most people not to compare it to the original. The boys are rivetting to watch, they break their formation and walk out towards their audience. |
| Jonathan takes the limelight and really dramatises the uptempo part of the song. It's very entertaining and one can easily imagine him playing a lead role in a west end musical! Ben Thepa's voice also stands out during this arrangement which ends, as it started, back in the diamond for the lullaby finale. |
| The X Factor crowd are definitely rhapsodizing by the end of the performance. How about that panel? |
Kate: Wow! ... Okay guys it's time for the judges verdict. ( G4 supporters are making themselves heard.) ... Thank you. Thank you...Sharon? Sharon: Erm, we'll start with the first song. The first song guys I ... was a bit too holy for me. (titters from audience) Erm I ... but church-ey! But erm, this one is just, I mean it's spectacular, it's just amazing! (cheers) I just loved the whole arrangement. I, I love the movements. Everything about it, it was truly... it's been your best performance to date. Spectacular. (cheers) Kate: Simon! Simon: (puffs his cheeks up and blows out) ...Y'know it's... it's a difficult one this be...because you know, once again I think there will be a hell of a lot of people who'll watch that at home and go "I loved it!" I also think there will be an awful lot of people who would have hated it. (boos) Erm, but I don't...(more groans and boos) Kate: How do you feel about it Simon? Simon: Er, Kate you know, I have to... I have to compliment the guys because they've been brave! And erm, they could have played this very, very safe... and er, they took a risk. You know when you do a classic song like 'Bohemian Rhapsody' you're taking a risk, so... Kate: Did it pay off? Simon: It may have done, yeah! (nods) Kate: Thank you Jonathan: Can I say...? Kate: Guys, you performed Bohemian Rhapsody at your first ever audition for The X Factor. Did you ever dream you'd be singing it at the semi finals Jonathan? |
 |
Jonathan: Er, we never thought we'd ever be singing this here but it's kind of funny that it's the third week you've sat on the fence... Louis: Yep Jonathan: ...and 'erm it's amusing for us to think that the first time we performed that you... you said, and I'd like to quote actually. "Forget the competition, we'll give you a record contract tomorrow!" (Simon is pushing his bottom lip out.... Sharon is gleefully pulling faces at him!) |
 |
Jonathan: ...And it's amazing to see that we've improved dramatically since then. Everybody has seen that week by week. But yet you're contradicting yourself in front of millions of people here tonight. (big cheers, Sharon goes wild, Mike pats Jonathan on the back, Simon keeps that bottom lip out!) Kate: Thank you very much. Jonathan: Can I also say quickly that we... we didn't actually want you to give us a record contract. We hadn't seen that until it was broadcast. We don't want you to give it to us, we want to earn it, we want to get to the finals and win this! Kate: Ladies and gentlemen, let's hear it for Louis and G4! Jonathan: Thank you. Kate: Wow! (she does some shadow boxing) Whohohaa! It's fight night! |
| G4's Results Show Reprise |
Not surprisingly G4's choice for the reprise number is their pièce de résistance Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. After singing the boys catch up with Kate Thornton for a few words... |
Kate: Well done guys... Boys the phone lines are open, voting is active. Why should the public vote for you tonight? Matt: Well, we sing a wide variety of songs. We are liked by young and old. And we'd just love to have the opportunity to put an album on the shelves so those people can enjoy it. We really would! (cheers) Kate: Okay! So they've done all they can. Let's hear it for G4! |
