Tabby Callaghan - The X Factor (Final 4 Show)

Tabby Callaghan is the final act to sing tonight. The rocker's song choices are...

1.

More Than Words

[Extreme]

2.

Livin' On A Prayer

[Bon Jovi]

Tabby Callaghan succeeds in rocking the house again with his version of Bon Jovi's hit "Livin' On A Prayer"

Tabby is shown earlier this week at the Osbourne mansion having a bit of a post-mortem with mentor Sharon Osbourne and vocal coach Mark Hudson over why he found himself in the bottom two last Saturday.

Tabby noted that practically everyone has been in the bottom two "I expected the knock... I'm just happy I was able to come out of it."

Sharon reckons that "Maybe people are over-confident, thinking that other people are voting for you, so they needn't vote for you."

To drum up more support Tabby is packed off to meet Paul O'Grady on his 5 o'clock show. It looks like Tabby has switched one voter at least, that's Paul who had previously pledged his support for Rowetta.

Now Paul says "Tabby, we're rooting for you kid! I'm behind yer! ... If you know what I mean".

...Perhaps Kate Thornton doesn't (or maybe she does!), because she kind of raises her eyebrow a little as she introduces Tabby onto tonight's stage.

The Tab-meister, as Sharon calls him, glides onto the stage like an aeroplane. He pops his posterior onto a stool and begins playing acoustic guitar.

The song is Extreme's "More Than Words" but Tabby appears to forget the first few of them and kind of hums at the very start of the song. It's tuneful humming though, and Tabby soon gets into the number.

Still, Tabby doesn't look entirely comfortable. When we observe his leg shaking it seems to be a little more from nerves than from the rhythm. Vocally it's not a bad effort though and Tabby succeeds in showing that his voice isn't only suited to rousing rock numbers.

His second number is definitely rousing rock though! It's Bon Jovi's 'Livin' On A Prayer'.

Tabby pumps up the audience with a bit of shadow boxing, and with the help of his now familiar spiral patterned guitar he really knocks 'em dead. He's more than half-way there with this number and looks entirely in his element performing it.

Tabby Callaghan's guitar has become a familiar feature of many performances. Tonight he treated us to another great solo riff.

He even holds out his mike to the audience which is looking and sounding wilder than ever!

How about Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, will they look and sound wilder than ever?

Kate: Okay Tabby, it's time for the judges' verdict. Simon?

Simon: Errr, (lets out a deep breath) great performance! ... Great performance! Erm...

Kate: Which one?

Simon: Err...Second one for me was better than the first. Like, I think you went like Steve, you were nervous tonight you... I could see that on the first song, but er, I think most people tonight are going to be judged on the second song. I'll tell you what. I wouldn't like to call who's going to be voted out tonight. Every one of these artists is going to need a phone call, let me tell you! (cheers)

Kate: Thank you very much Simon. Louis?

Louis: I thought Tabby was really good. He perform..he doesn't just sing songs, he performs a song...

Simon: Yeah, I agree.

Louis: ...and he owns that stage. I did prefer the Bon Jovi song to the Extreme song Tabby, but at least you showed that you're different and you're versatile and you're born to rock! (cheers)

Kate: Sharon? Did Tabby do you proud tonight?

Sharon: Tabby always does me proud. And I just have to say something really quickly. He's started out the day the worst because you know, to open up the paper and read a big headline 'Tabby The Terrible' and read lie after lie after lie about this kid. And he's had a really bad day and do you know what to the paper? (She punches her palm with a flourish! - Apparently this is some kind of rude gesture!)

Kate: Tabs, you had a bad day, has it ended bad? Do you think you've done enough tonight to be back next week?

Tabby: Well, Kate like, to be honest you know there's no point in lying because I was very nervous tonight like becau... do you know what like? I've often done gigs and done 30 or 40 songs in a night, but these 2 songs, I was just thinking about it so much you know. And I mean it's such pressure to get here. I mean it's been so hard to get here and I... nobody wants to go anywhere. I don't want to go anywhere, I want to stay! (cheers)

Kate: (partly drowned by cheers) So you want people at home to do what Tabby?

Tabby: Yeah, absolutely, please, please, please!

Kate: Please what? Please vote! ?

Tabby: Please give me a chance and vote, please! Pick up the phone!

Kate: Ladies and gentleman it's Sharon and Tabby!
