Tabby Callaghan - Sweet Child O' Mine (Guns 'n' Roses)

In Tabby Callaghan's pre-performance videoclip Sharon Osbourne  points out that last week her young rock protégé began his number (Aerosmith's 'I Don't Want To Miss A Thing) out of tune! However neither Louis nor Simon picked up on this!

This is really a compliment for the Sligo rocker, because it highlights the fact that his performances are so good that his audience aren't overly sensitive to the quality of his vocals!

The most revealing element of Tabby's videoclip however is watching Sharon say to him...

"Let me tell you 'You go, I go', that's the deal!"

It's a statement that begs a few questions, like: Surely not Sharon? What about poor young Cassie? You wouldn't leave her mentorless, would you?

Naturally, Tabby must be hoping these are questions that won't have to be answered tonight!

He dashes onto the stage with his trusty guitar, does a bit of crowd pumpy-uppy before digging into his song for tonight. It's Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns 'n' Roses, a really good choice for Tabby.

The song really suits his voice, and his fingers! Yes he gets in a few solo guitar riffs! And very good they sound too! The Irishman is rocking the house down again and doing it in style! ...

...but...did Tabby rock the socks of Messrs Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh?

Kate: Well done. Tabby, it's time for the judges' verdict! Simon Cowell?

Simon: Er, yea, picking up what Sharon said in the film clip. Yea, it's only when I watched the tape back, because you can't hear in here half the time, you were out of tune last week. But it didn't matter because as she said, you pulled off at the end. I mean once again, amazing! The only thing I would say though is... is that I think you've reached a point in this competiton now... rather than doing a rock version of a rock song which is very, very similar to the original, I'd love to hear you put your own interpretation on a song that wasn't a rock song! So that you start to become more original now.

Tabby: Okay, cool.

Simon: That is my only criticism.

Tabby: (smiles) I'm up for the Pepsi challenge!

Kate: Thank you Simon. Louis?

Louis: I mean, Sharon said he was out of tune last week. I didn't notice and it doesn't matter because this guy is a real, real performer. Y'know, I think he's got, I think he's got star quality. I think Tabby is a contender for the final of this competition. I really do. (cheers)

Kate: Wow! Thank you Louis. Sharon? How do you feel your boy did tonight?

Sharon: (Makes a handsign) Fantastic, of course! C'mon!

Kate: (to audience) We liked it in here, didn't we? (cheers)... Now Tabby, you guys have clearly grown very close. What has Sharon managed to teach you during your time together?

Tabby: Erm, I have to say like the one thing that she's really kind of put across to me...that like...if you're going to be a bear be a grizzly. Do you know what I mean like?

Kate: (jokingly translates Tabby's brogue!) That's a 'bear' and grizzly by the way! (Tabby laughs)

Tabby: I'm out of breath, c'mon!... Erm, d'you know, just basically, y'know if you're going to do these things y'know be yourself and don't try and be anything else y'know.

Kate: Yeah.

Tabby: Y'know.

Kate: And that's brave management isn't it?

Tabby: It's great, it's fantastic!

Kate: Now you must be feeling a great sense of responsibility towards her and the folks back home. We saw little Illan up there.

Tabby: Yea, me wee boy, ya.

Kate: Yea.

Tabby: Well, d'ya know what like? Erm, since this competition has started, y'know, I wasn't really sure like how far I'd get in the competition y'know, but all I know is that every time I'm here like, y'know all I can think about is the responsibility that I have. Do you know...as well...not just to my family or my son....but to Sharon as well like for actually letting me be here and stuff you know, and actually giving me a chance to be here and do this, 'cos this is all I've ever wanted to do y'know. So I mean I feel a huge responsibility but I'm just delighted to be...I...nothing more to say...I'm just delighted to be here. You don't know. Seriously! (cheers)

(Sharon cups her hand over Tabby's mouth to indicate that he's said enough.)

Kate: Arhh, thank you Tabby, and Sharon! Well done, well done! Thank you very much guys.
