G4 - My Way (Frank Sinatra)

Jonathan, Ben, Matt and Mike must be wondering what they need to do to please the X Factor viewers, because last week they gave a startling performance yet still wound up in the bottom two!

Perhaps that's why Louis Walsh announces that "they're going to do a very big standard song and they're going to do it their way!"

Their way is Louis' cryptic clue to the song which, if you haven't yet worked it out, is Frank Sinatra's My Way.

In fact the boys have worked out their own arrangement for the song this week, so they really are doing it their way.

G4 are all nattily dressed and slick-suited tonight. To begin with they are seated on high stools and singing a capella. It sounds nice enough but 'nice' is about as far as it goes!

Unfortunately things don't improve greatly, although they do inject some variety into their arrangement.

After a minute or two a backing track is introduced and the G4 fellas stand up. During the closing bars the guys sing and swagger their way towards the front of the stage in a kind of a rat-pack fashion.

Somehow the arrangement seems lack-lustre, even their harmonies are less impressive than usual.

So that's our verdict; what about music moguls Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne? What do they think of G4's way?

Kate: G4, it's time for the judges' verdict! Sharon?

Sharon: What can you say it was fantastic. And I know that you guys did that arrangement all by yourselves, and again the arrangement was spectacular. You all look 'stunning' might I add, completely stunning! (Cheers) There's nothing like an English gentleman in a fabulous suit, and there's 4 of them here! You're stunning and I love you!

Kate: Thank you very much. (cheers) Simon Cowell?

Simon: When a reviewer recently described this talent show as a 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest' of talent shows he was right! (Laughingly) This show is getting madder by the week! Because I honestly guys don't really know what to say. There was part of me that thought as you were singing... it was rather like being at a banking convention; at the end four of you who've had a few drinks get up and sing a song (audience laughs and groans) or .... maybe it was great? Well obviously...

Kate: Well you're the judge, you tell us! Was it great?

Simon: Kate! I haven't got a clue.

Kate: Right? That's a first! Louis, thank you very much!

Louis: I thought it was the best performance yet, and they arranged the whole song themselves and I thought it was (muffled)... I'm very proud of them! (Cheers)

Kate: Now boys, you are the only act representing Louis and the groups now. Are you feeling the pressure. Have you been out there trying to boost support this week?

Mike: Well, I mean yea, sure. We're definitely feeling the pressure. I mean at this stage in the competition everyone's feeling pressure. There are so few of us but we've got to remember that we're holding the flame for the rest of the groups out there! And especially to our best friends Voices With Soul and 2 To Go! We're here for everyone! (Voices With Soul are shown applauding happily in the audience!)

Kate: Okay. So I know you've had a busy week. I know Louis' had you out there canvassing for votes. Where...you've played 16 schools, you've been busking. Er, where else have you been? Jonathan?

Jonathan: Erm, we did manage to get to Stringfellows

Kate: I heard!

Jonathan: ...which was a poor night. But we were invited... we didn't have... we didn't yer, choose to go.

Louis: Was Simon there? Was Simon Cowell?

Jonathan: He wasn't. He wasn't there that night!

Kate: No it was his night off!

Jonathan: We didn't see him. (Kate laughs)

Simon: (Smiles and nods his head) You weren't Louis? Were you?

Kate: Okay, so you've had a good week and a very fulfilling week by the sounds of it! For now everybody, let's say thanks to Louis and G4!
