Voices With Soul - Bridge Over Troubled Water (Simon And Garfunkel)

So far in this competition, Louis Walsh is undefeated. He wants to keep it that way!

He knows the The X Factor is a family show so he plays the family card when he introduces his first act of the night...

"We have a mammy, a daughter and an aunt! We've got Corene (daughter), Hildia (aunt) and Grace (mammy!). Voices With... real ...Soul!"...

Their pre-song video clip shows the girls performing at G.A.Y. in London at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The girls had already worked a 15 hour day but they looked full of energy on stage singing 'Natural Woman', which was also their song on last Saturday's show.

Naturally, they got a great reception from the clubbers. Of course Louis isn't daft, he knows this could trigger a valueable fanbase for the girls amongst the gay community.

Voices With Soul's Aunt Hildia belts out the lead vocal on Bridge Over Troubled Water during the Live 'Final Seven' Show.

Terry Longden has done a wonderful job on styling the girls this week. They are looking very elegant in their shimmering black evening gowns. The only surprise is that instead of singing Amazing Grace as previewed on yesterday's screening of The Xtra Factor they sing Simon and Garfunkel's all time classic Bridge Over Troubled Water.

It's a great song and they sing it with a beautiful passion. They do have a noticeable pitch wobble at one point early in the song, but the audience don't care about that, they are carried away with the emotion of the performance.

...but how about the panel?

Kate: It's time for the judges' verdict. Sharon?

Sharon: I love the simplicity of the song. It was all about their voices, all about their souls. I mean you just nailed it, you really, really nailed it! (big cheers) ... And... might I add, you looked stunning! All three of you! (Big smiles from the girls) Fabulous! The three divas!

Kate: Thank you Sharon. Simon?

Simon: Errr... (tentatively) good... I think that this won't sound as good on television as it did sound in here. I think some of the tuning was out. I think you needed more preparation for the song. I thought the choice of song was spot on! But er, this is one of those records on which it will expose you when you're out of tune and I think there were tuning problems on that performance, I really do. (muted boos)

Kate: Were there Louis?

Louis: No-oo. He's obviously got different ears...

Simon: No good asking Louis because he's deaf! (laughter)

Louis: Helloo! You're the one who's made all the bad records, Simon. These girls were fantastic and look at them! (cheers) What a transformation!

Simon: But you don't think they were out of tune?

Louis: Sorry, what was that? (puts his hand up to his ear)

Simon: You... you didn't think they were out of tune? ...You didn't think they were out of tune?

Louis: Absolutely not! And nobody here did. (sounds of support from the audience, Simon smiles. Sharon raises her hand for permission to speak.)

Kate: Sharon?

Sharon: I just think there were a couple of points where you were, but we're not making a record, we're making t.v.

Louis: And it's live.

Sharon: So it doesn't matter!

Louis: And it's real.(applause)

Kate: (to Voices With Soul) Ladies! Some criticism there from Simon. Do you feel that you came out tonight and didn't manage to hit all those notes?

There's a bit of a silence. The girls seem a little shocked and dumbstruck. Hildia pipes up as spokeperson

Hildia: Well... we have to listen back to it really, and see.

Kate: How are you feeling?

Hildia: Feeling good!

Louis: They're really nervous... (drowned out by support from the audience)

Kate: (to the girls) Do you feel that you delivered tonight? Are you pleased with your performance?

Hildia: Yeah, we've done our best, so...(the girls all nod)

Kate: Well listen, you're live to the nation. Why should the public pick up the phone for you girls tonight?

Grace: We've been singing together for a long time in our local churches, and we thank X Factor for giving us this chance to be able to show the people what we can do! (cheers)

Kate: Thank you very much.

Hildia:  We are...(cheers) ... This is a dream come true for us and we're living this dream as a family, with my sister Grace, and my niece Corene.

Kate: Okay, well girls, let's see where that goes tonight. For now it's Louis and Voices With Soul!
