2 To Go - Always (Atlantic Starr)

Louis is ever keen to dismantle Simon’s tactics, but he makes a bit of a faux pas when he uses his intro for Peter and Emma as the platform from which to launch his next Simon salvo, "...unlike some of the other acts, we’re not going to use any gimmicks or choirs or anything, this is all live..."

The audience takes his comment to be a slight on Rowetta’s vocal integrity and Louis is bombarded by boos yet again.

Louis explains that Peter and Emma’s accompaniment will simply be Peter on keyboards and everything is ‘live’.

Peter Jones and Emma Paine of 2 To Go bravely face Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne after the 'Final 8' show performance.

Thick skinned though Louis may be, Simon’s criticism of 2 To Go's ‘old fashioned’ appearance seems to have hit home. Their new stage look is altogether younger and more casual.

The song suits them as well as their new look. It’s a very romantic song and they look the part, whether or not they are ‘best friends’ or ‘something more’! Technically it isn’t a perfect performance, but they both put the song over with an endearing sincerity and simplicity.

Louis seems delighted with their performance, and he congratulates them warmly as he joins them to face his fellow mentors Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne.

Kate: Here they are ‘2 to Go!’ (cheers)

Louis: Well done guys, well done!

Kate: Sharon? (cheers continue) ... Thank you ... Sharon?

Sharon: Oh you know what I’m going to say! I love you guys so much, so real, so organic, I just...there’s nothing I can fault and actually you do look great, you look really great (cheers) Bravo! And Minnie says (barking voice) she loves you too! (Kate laughs, Emma waves to Minnie!)

Kate: Simon, stop rolling your eyes and tell me what you think.

Simon: Ohhhh! ... And I apologise in advance here be-cause I love your voice Peter. Erm, when I said last week that what Louis has done was old fashioned ... I think the same thing again. Because I don’t (groans from audience) ... excuse me! I don’t see any improvement. I thought it was the equivalent honestly of a hotel lounge act. (more groans) You know what this show is about is finding a recording artist and I think as an act its fine. But you know the show is called ‘The X Factor’ and I just didn’t get that and I think... Louis you’re choosing terrible songs!

Louis: Simon I disagree with you totally! Simon, Peter has got something you’ll never ever have, he’s got soul! (loud cheers)...’n y’know what... ‘kay... Simon we’re going to leave it to the public tonight. You’ve been wrong before... the public are going to prove you wrong tonight.

Louis: This is a class act!

Simon: Good.

Kate: Guys...

Louis: Peter, what do you think?

Kate: You’ve heard 2 very differing opinions from the panel tonight. Sharon loved you, Simon not so much feeling the love. Pete, what do you think?

Louis: What do you think? Tell him!

Peter: I think he’s a very nice man. (Emma laughs, Simon and Sharon smile.) But it sells, you can’t deny that... it will sell.

Kate: Well what do you think of the comments tonight... I mean you can’t agree with them?

Peter: Well...

Emma: A little bit harsh I think.

Peter: ... I suppose the ballad thing. We are doing a lot of ballads, but that’s what we’re best at. But hey, next week if we get through...

Louis: Simon’s made a lot of money out of ballads!

Peter: I know. If we get through next week we might do something a bit different, you never know.

Kate: Okay, well lets see how the public votes. For now, ladies and gentlemen, Louis and 2 To Go! (Big cheers – Louis claps very vigorously!)
